I took the FindMyCollegeCourse.ie Interest Test, and it actually got it spot on

By Sarah O Tuama

As someone who is a year out of college, and many years out of school, I recently decided to take the Interest Test on FindMyCollegeCourse.ie, just out of curiosity.

I’d heard about it before and knew the impact it had on some students, really helping to steer them in the right direction. I was almost jealous that something like this didn’t exist when I was making the decision on what to include on my CAO, and more specifically, what course would be the one I put on top. This felt like a hugely daunting decision for an 18 year old, and if I had a tool like this for reassurance that I was making the right call, I definitely would have used it.

I wanted to take the test to see if even after completing my degree, working in that area and everything turning out alright, that with my subjects, my interests, my points and results, if Communications in DCU was what would appear.

The process was really straightforward – you answer a series of questions about your likes, dislikes, fill out your grades (or predicted grades) and you’re done. It doesn’t take too long, but it’s detailed enough to give you something genuinely useful at the end.

When I got my results, I was impressed. It suggested Communications and Journalism, with an 83% match. I didn’t expect it to be so accurate, but it really did capture my interests and strengths perfectly. It also suggested a few other courses and areas, like psychology, that I was always interested in and had included on my CAO as backups.

Choosing a course can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re not sure what direction you want to go in. Having a tool, like FindmyCollegeCourse.ie, gives you a bit of clarity or confirmation can make that decision so much easier.

I think it’s worth it if you’re genuinely unsure about what to study or if you want to explore your options with a bit more direction. It’s insightful, easy to complete, and in my case, very accurate!
