About the course

A four-year, English-taught fashion design degree in Arnhem covering experimental design, fashion illustration, textile design and theory, with a three- to six-month internship at a fashion studio in year 3 and a graduation collection in year 4. It is a practical, career-focused degree at an arts academy (a university of applied sciences for the arts).

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The institution assesses the Irish Leaving Certificate individually and does not publish a fixed Irish requirement. Contact admissions to confirm.
  • No specific school subjects are required. The main hurdle is the entrance exam: first an interview day where the committee discusses your motivation, your home assignment and your portfolio (sketches, process and designs); if you pass, a practical exam on site the next day (09:30 to 16:30).
  • English good enough to follow classes (for example IELTS Academic 5.5 overall and in each section). You do not need a test if your secondary education was taught in English, or if English is your mother tongue and the national language of the country where you finished school.

How to apply

  1. Register on StudielinkApply for Fashion Design (Arnhem) on Studielink. ArtEZ then invites you to an admission day and sends the home assignment.

  3. Entrance exam in ArnhemDay 1: interview about your motivation, home assignment and portfolio (about 20 to 25 minutes on an older ArtEZ page). If you pass, day 2 is a practical exam.
  4. DecisionThe committee gives its recommendation the following week and the ArtEZ Exam Board makes the final decision. An offer is valid only for the programme and academic year you applied for.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: There is no single fixed deadline. After you register on Studielink, ArtEZ invites you to an admission day and sends you the home assignment. Entrance exams are held in rounds in spring (an older ArtEZ page listed rounds in mid-March and mid-April). ArtEZ had not published the dates for 2027 entry when we checked..

Costs

  • Standard Dutch EU fee: €2,694 (2026/27). The 2027/28 fee is set by the Dutch government each year (expected to be close to €2,800).
  • EU students may be eligible for a Dutch tuition-fee loan (DUO).
Selective entry: you get a place only if you pass the artistic entrance exam. An offer is valid only for the academic year straight after the exam.
