About the course

A three-year (6-semester, 180 ECTS) BSc taught in English at the Faculty of Technical Sciences. It gives a theoretical foundation in robotics and artificial intelligence alongside hands-on lab work, with required subjects (124 ECTS), guided electives (36 ECTS), open electives (10 ECTS) and a bachelor’s thesis/seminar (10 ECTS). There is no entrance exam: admission is through the general admission procedure. You can start in the winter semester (October) or the summer semester.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Austria has no CAO-style points system and there is no entrance exam for this course. You need a school-leaving qualification that gives general university entrance (like the Austrian Matura). Applicants with a foreign certificate, such as the Leaving Cert, follow a separate admission procedure where the university checks whether the certificate is equivalent. The University of Klagenfurt’s exact Leaving Cert rules (number of subjects and Higher Level grades) were not confirmed, so check with the Admissions and Examinations Office before you apply.
  • Maths requirement: no specific maths requirement was found. Taking Higher Level Maths is strongly advised for a robotics and AI degree.
  • English: level B2 (CEFR) is required. The university’s language rules accept passing English as part of the school-leaving exam at a school in an EU country, so Leaving Cert English should count. Confirm this with admissions.

How to apply

  1. Check Leaving Cert recognitionRead the university’s page for applicants without an Austrian or German school-leaving certificate and ask the Admissions and Examinations Office what they need from the Leaving Cert.
  2. Apply onlineEU/EEA applicants can apply online at any time. Upload your Leaving Cert results and proof of English (Leaving Cert English should count). Apply early so your documents can be checked.
  3. Enrol in personOnce you get your letter of admission, enrol in person at the Admissions and Examinations Office in Klagenfurt during the general admission period (about 6 July to 5 September 2027, to be confirmed).
  4. Pay the students’ union feePay the students’ union fee plus insurance (26.20 euro per semester in 2026/27) to complete enrolment. The payment deadline for the winter semester is 31 October.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: EU/EEA applicants can apply online at any time, but must enrol in person during the general admission period. For bachelor’s programmes this ran from 6 July to 5 September 2026 for the 2026/27 winter semester (an extension up to 31 October may be allowed in some cases). The 2027/28 dates had not been published when checked, so expect roughly 6 July to 5 September 2027 and confirm on the university’s ‘Term dates and deadlines’ page. Apply well ahead so your foreign certificate can be checked in time..

Costs

  • EU/EEA students pay no tuition for the official length of the programme plus two extra semesters. After that the fee is 363.36 euro per semester. Every student pays the students’ union fee plus insurance of 26.20 euro per semester, so most EU students pay 26.20 euro per semester. Figures are from the University of Klagenfurt’s fees page (2026/27); 2027/28 amounts may change slightly.
Language of teaching, duration, admission route, fees and 2026/27 deadlines were confirmed on the University of Klagenfurt’s website. Check the Leaving Cert recognition rules and the 2027 dates with the university before you apply.
