About the course

A three-year, 180 ECTS Bachelor of Science (BSc.) in psychology, taught entirely in English at SFU’s Faculty of Psychology in Vienna. SFU also runs a separate German-taught version. The course covers the scientific study of theoretical and practical problems in psychology, with training in social-science research methods, and ends with a Bachelor’s thesis. There is one intake a year, in September (winter semester). You cannot start in the summer semester.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Austria has no CAO-style points system. SFU asks for proof that you qualify for university entry, such as a secondary school-leaving certificate. The Leaving Certificate is a secondary school-leaving certificate, but SFU’s official pages do not say how it is assessed, for example how many subjects or Higher Level grades you need. Confirm this with SFU’s Studies Service Centre before applying.
  • No specific Maths or other subject requirement is listed on the programme page. Applicants whose first language is not English must show English at B2 level (TOEFL, IELTS Academic, IB, CAE or LanguageCert Academic, taken within the last two years). This does not apply to native speakers, but ask SFU whether it will accept Irish nationality or Leaving Certificate English as proof.

How to apply

  1. Check the programme pageRead SFU’s Bachelor Programme Psychology page for the 2027/28 application window (for 2026/27 it was 1 February to 30 September for EU applicants), the module handbook and the curriculum.

  3. Apply online and interviewSubmit the online application. SFU reviews your documents and then invites you to an interview of about 30 minutes, held online on MS Teams.
  4. Accept and enrolIf you get an offer, accept it, pay the tuition and enrol before the September start. Then arrange accommodation in Vienna.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: For entry in autumn 2026 (2026/27), EU/EEA citizens could apply from 1 February to 30 September 2026. Non-EU citizens had to apply between 1 February and 15 May 2026. SFU has not yet published its dates for 2027 entry. If it keeps the same pattern, EU applicants would apply between about 1 February and 30 September 2027. Confirm the dates on the programme page, and apply early, because each application also involves an interview..

Costs

  • €7,719 per semester (about €15,438 a year) for entry in autumn 2026 (2026/27). EU and non-EU students pay the same fee. You also pay a one-time administrative fee of €550 when you apply, and it is not refunded. SFU is a private university, so these fees are much higher than at Austrian public universities, where EU students usually pay no tuition. Fees for 2027/28 have not been published yet and may go up.
