About the course

A three-year (180 ECTS), English-taught academic bachelor from KU Leuven’s Faculty of Engineering Technology at the Group T campus in Leuven. It aims to teach you to tackle technological problems in a critical, methodical way, giving you a broad scientific base and the chance to put what you learn into practice. It is listed in KU Leuven’s programme guide for 2027-2028.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • There is no CAO. You apply directly to KU Leuven. For a school-leaving qualification from an EU country, KU Leuven’s rule is that you can be admitted if it would get you into an equivalent engineering technology programme in your own country. For an Irish applicant, that means a Leaving Cert that meets Irish university entry and maths requirements for engineering. KU Leuven looks at the whole application file, and meeting the minimum does not guarantee a place.
  • Maths and science: you must either submit an OMPT-G test result of at least 60%, or (as an EU school-leaver) take part in the starting test at Group T in Leuven in early July. You must take part in the starting test, but the result does not decide your admission. If you do neither, the faculty can refuse admission. KU Leuven may also invite you to a free online assessment (STIS), which you must complete if invited, though its result is not binding either. A strong Higher Level Maths grade is strongly advised.
  • English: if you studied your whole secondary education in English in Ireland, you do not need a separate test. Your certified diploma and transcripts are enough if they show this. Otherwise you need TOEFL iBT 85, IELTS Academic 6.5 (with at least 6 in each part) or Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a score of 176.

How to apply

  1. Plan your maths proofDecide early whether to take the OMPT-G test (you need 60%, and the result must arrive before the deadline) or sit the starting test in Leuven in early July. Registration for the July test opens on ijkingstoets.be in mid-January.
  2. Apply onlineApply through KU Leuven’s online application system (kuleuven.be/english/application) and upload all requested documents by 1 June 2027.
  3. Sit the tests if neededTake the July starting test if that is how you are proving your maths level, and complete the online STIS assessment if KU Leuven invites you.
  4. Send final results and enrolUpload your Leaving Cert results when they come out in August. You must be fully enrolled by the start of the academic year and attend the compulsory introductory course, which starts three weeks before term.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: For 2027/28 the deadline for EEA applicants (including Irish students) is 1 June 2027. For non-EEA applicants it is 15 January 2027. KU Leuven says these dates are applied strictly, and every requested document must be uploaded through the online application system before the deadline. You must also prove your maths and science level. You can do this with an OMPT-G score of at least 60%, and the official result must be available before the application deadline. If you hold an EU school-leaving qualification, you can instead sit the on-campus starting test in Leuven in early July. The 2026 test was on 1 July 2026, and registration on ijkingstoets.be ran from 15 January to 15 June. The 2027 date has not been published yet..

Costs

  • KU Leuven’s standard tuition fee for 2026/27 is EUR 1,181.40 a year: a fixed cost of EUR 305.40 plus EUR 14.60 per credit, based on 60 credits. EU/EEA students normally pay this standard rate. The 2027/28 fee has not been published yet, and KU Leuven says fees may rise each year with indexation. Check the tuition fee breakdown page before you enrol.
You must prove your maths level. Either get at least 60% on the OMPT-G test before the deadline, or come to Leuven in early July for the starting test, where the result does not decide your admission. There is also a compulsory introductory course that starts three weeks before the academic year.
