About the course

This is a US-style liberal arts bachelor’s degree, taught in English over eight semesters. The Computer Science major has 12 courses (15 with a concentration) and a General Track or a concentration in Foundations of Computing or Software Development. Students can add a second major or minors at no extra cost.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • AUBG publishes no Irish-specific rule. It reviews your school transcript for the last three years (or your diploma with final grades) and recommends a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. It does not say how Leaving Cert grades (H1 to H8) convert, so ask admissions. Copies of your diploma must be notarised. Under Bulgarian national rules, EU applicants may also need recognition of their secondary education, so confirm this with AUBG early.
  • You also need an essay of about 650 words, one academic reference letter, a CV or portfolio, and an admissions interview (in person or online). SAT and ACT scores are optional. They can exempt you from the introductory courses MAT 100 and ENG 100.
  • English: AUBG may waive proof of English for citizens of Ireland who were mainly educated there. Otherwise you need IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 80 or Duolingo 110, or you can sit AUBG’s free institutional test.

How to apply

  1. Apply onlineFill in the AUBG application form (apply.aubg.edu) or the Common App. There is no application fee. Aim for Priority (15 Jan) or Early (15 Mar) to get the best scholarship chances.
  2. Upload documentsUpload your essay (about 650 words), one academic reference, your CV and your transcripts. Copies of your diploma must be notarised. Ask about an English waiver as an Irish-educated applicant.
  3. InterviewOnce your transcript and English evidence are uploaded, your admissions counsellor invites you to an interview, in person or online. AUBG says you will get a decision 4 to 6 weeks after the deadline.
  4. EnrolWhen your Leaving Cert results are out, send a notarised copy of your diploma. Check with AUBG whether you need Bulgarian recognition of it, then arrange housing and pay fees for the semester.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: There are three rounds: Priority Admission 15 January, Early Admission 15 March and Regular Admission 15 May. AUBG does not say which intake year these dates are for, so confirm the 2027 dates. Applying early gives the best chance of a scholarship. Some older AUBG pages give different dates (1 March and 1 June), so check the current How to Apply page..

Costs

  • €6,900 a semester, so €13,800 a year in 2026/27. AUBG charges the same fee to all students whatever their nationality. There is no application fee. AUBG says 87% of BA students get scholarships: merit awards of up to 40% off tuition, and some full scholarships. On-campus housing costs extra, €925 to €1,700 a semester.
AUBG is a private American-style university. Tuition is €13,800 a year for everyone, and EU students do not get Bulgarian public-university rates, although most students get some scholarship. Computer Science is listed as US and EU accredited.
