About the course

A history major within AUBG’s American-style liberal arts system, with courses ranging from global history and historical methods to modern Europe, Eastern Europe and the Balkans, and US history. Students can add a second major or up to two minors at no extra cost.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • AUBG publishes nothing specific on the Leaving Certificate. It asks for an official transcript of your last three years of school (or your final certificate with grades once you have it) and recommends a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0, so ask your Admissions Counsellor how your Junior Cycle/Transition Year, mock and Leaving Cert H1-H8/O1-O8 results will be read. As this is a Bulgarian-accredited degree, also ask whether you need a Bulgarian certificate recognising your Leaving Cert (NACID/Ministry of Education) before enrolment.
  • No entrance exam and no SAT/ACT required. You submit a 650-word essay, one academic reference, a CV or portfolio, and do an admissions interview (online or in person).
  • English: Irish citizens mainly educated in Ireland can ask their Admissions Counsellor to waive the English test. Otherwise IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 80 or Duolingo 110.

How to apply

  1. Apply online by 15 January 2027Complete the AUBG application form or the Common App. The priority round is also the deadline for merit scholarships (need-based aid by 31 January). Later rounds close 15 March and 15 May.

  4. Accept and pay the depositConfirm your offer and pay the deposit by the date in your offer letter, then arrange campus housing and send your final Leaving Cert results in summer 2027.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Fall 2027 intake: Priority Admission 15 January, Early Admission 15 March, Regular Admission 15 May. Merit scholarship applications are due by 15 January and need-based scholarship applications by 31 January, so apply in the priority round if you want funding. Costs

  • Tuition is €6,900 a semester (€13,800 a year) before any scholarship for 2026/27, plus a €320 student activity fee and a €200 meal plan deposit each semester. AUBG sets tuition each January, so the 2027/28 figure may be a little higher. The fee is the same for all students regardless of nationality. There is no application fee. Campus housing costs €925-€1,700 a semester. AUBG says 87% of bachelor students receive scholarships; merit awards cover up to 40% of tuition and a few full scholarships exist.
AUBG is a private American-style university in Bulgaria: tuition is about €13,800 a year before scholarships, but most students receive some aid, so apply by 15 January to be considered. History and Civilizations leads to a diploma accredited in both the US and the EU (Bulgaria).

Checked against the official AUBG website: September 2026 (2027 entry). Deadlines are published for Fall 2027; the fee is the 2026/27 figure and the 2027/28 fee is set in January 2027, so confirm it then. Always confirm details with the university before applying.
