About the course

A five-year Master of Science in Pharmacy taught in English: nine semesters with two short training practices, followed by a pre-graduation internship of 120 working days in a community or hospital pharmacy.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The university assesses the Irish Leaving Certificate individually and does not publish a fixed Irish requirement. Contact admissions to confirm. On its non-EU page the university ranks applicants by the official-language grade from the school diploma plus the Biology and Chemistry test results multiplied by three (maximum 42); we could not confirm whether the same formula applies to EU applicants.
  • Entry tests in Biology and Chemistry, taken online in English. Each lasts 1 hour 30 minutes and has five sections (multiple choice, gap filling, matching, true/false, definitions and explanations).
  • English: the university’s non-EU page exempts school leavers from Ireland from an English certificate if their diploma shows English at ‘Very good’; otherwise it accepts IELTS Academic 6.5, TOEFL iBT 90, PTE Academic 61 or Cambridge CAE/CPE 176. Confirm the rule for EU applicants with admissions.

Working in Ireland afterwards

A pharmacy degree from an EU/EEA member state that fully meets the Directive 2005/36/EC minimum training requirements (Article 44) can be recognised automatically. If you started your studies before the Directive’s reference date, you also need 3 consecutive years of professional experience within the last 5 years. Recognition is step one and PSI registration is step two: recognition alone does not let you practise, and you must also prove competence in English. EU law allows countries to limit EU-qualified pharmacists from running newly opened pharmacies, and we could not confirm on the PSI website whether Ireland does this. If you plan to be the supervising or superintendent pharmacist in a pharmacy, check with the PSI.

How to apply

  1. Register onlineCreate an account on e-application.mu-varna.bg and pay the EUR 340 fee no later than one week before your chosen test date (2026 dates were 4 Apr, 16 May, 13 Jun, and for EU applicants only 16 Jul and 3 Sep).
  2. Sit the entry testsTake the online Biology and Chemistry tests in English. The university offers a paid preparatory course (EUR 600 in 2026).
  3. Send documentsSend your Leaving Certificate and other documents, legalised and translated into Bulgarian, to the Office of Admissions for NACID verification. You are only ranked once your paper file is complete.
  4. Enrol and payIf admitted, enrol and pay your first fee instalment. Confirm the enrolment steps, payment schedule and 2027 dates with the university.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: 2026 cycle (for autumn 2026 entry): online entry tests on 4 April, 16 May and 13 June 2026, with extra dates for EU applicants only on 16 July and 3 September 2026. The EUR 340 fee must be paid no later than one week before your chosen test date. Only applicants whose full set of paper documents (legalised, translated into Bulgarian and verified by NACID) has been received are ranked. The non-EU document deadline was 11 September 2026; we could not confirm a separate EU document deadline. Dates for 2027 entry are not yet published..

Costs

  • EUR 8,000 for the first year in 2026/27. Fees for later years are not published on the pages we checked. Fees for foreign students are set each May by decree of the Bulgarian Council of Ministers. One-off non-refundable application fee of EUR 340; retaking a test costs EUR 150 per test.
An EU pharmacy degree that fully meets the Directive 2005/36/EC minimum training requirements can be recognised automatically, but you must then register separately with the PSI and prove your English; if you plan to be a supervising or superintendent pharmacist, check with the PSI. Learning Bulgarian is compulsory for the first two years of the programme.
