About the course

A four-year hospitality business degree: a Preparatory Year (taught only in English) with practical training and an operational internship, then three years of business foundations, applied business and a specialisation with a final project. It includes two six-month internships, one in operations and one in administration or a start-up. You can study in the English or French section in Lausanne (there is also a Singapore campus).

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The Leaving Cert is not on EHL’s list of accepted qualifications, which covers the Swiss Maturité, French Baccalauréat, IB, A-Levels and the US diploma. EHL says ‘Other upper secondary diploma may be accepted’ and asks you to contact admissions@ehl.ch. In general you need a school-leaving qualification that gets you into university in your own country. Ask EHL what Leaving Cert grades and Higher Level subjects it expects before you apply. For comparison, the A-Level minimum is BBC including a quantitative subject.
  • Maths: EHL expects you to have studied maths for the last three years of secondary school, so take Leaving Cert Maths through to the exam. You must be 18 before the course starts. You also write a 500-650 word essay, sit an online analytical and quantitative aptitude test and a 20-minute interview, and then have a final interview.
  • English: C1 level is required. You are exempt if you spent three years in English-medium schooling, which should cover Irish schools, but confirm this with admissions. Otherwise you need IELTS Academic 7.0, Cambridge C1 Advanced grade B, Duolingo 130 or TOEFL iBT.

How to apply

  1. Contact admissionsEmail admissions@ehl.ch in autumn 2026 to confirm how your Leaving Cert (subjects, levels, grades) will be assessed and that your Irish schooling covers the English requirement.
  2. Apply onlineCreate an account on the EHL application portal (ehlisa.ehl.edu). Choose Lausanne, the September 2027 intake and the English section. Upload your passport, school transcripts and 500-650 word essay, and pay the CHF 220 fee. Final deadline: 15 June 2027.
  3. Aptitude test and interviewsComplete the online analytical and quantitative aptitude test and the 20-minute online interview, then the final interview on your motivation and suitability for hospitality.
  4. Confirm enrolmentIf you get an offer, confirm on the portal, pay the CHF 5,000 deposit, book campus housing, register with HES-SO (CHF 150) and sort out Swiss health insurance.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: September 2027 intake: 31 May 2027 (listed as the visa deadline) and 15 June 2027 (final deadline). There is also a February intake. For February 2027 the deadlines were 31 October 2026 (visa deadline) and 15 December 2026 (final). Apply early, because the final interview and enrolment have to be done after you apply..

Costs

  • EU citizens living outside Switzerland pay the international rate. The Swiss/HES-SO rate (CHF 1,400 a year after the Preparatory Year) is only for Swiss nationals or people legally resident in Switzerland. International tuition for the September 2027 and February 2028 intakes is CHF 24,898 for the Preparatory Year, CHF 40,045 for Year 1, CHF 24,352 for Year 2 and CHF 34,507 for Year 3, a total of CHF 123,802. That averages about CHF 31,000 a year, or roughly EUR 33,000 at current exchange rates (approximate). Compulsory fees, which add infrastructure charges and a food credit, total CHF 183,874 over four years. On top of that: on-campus housing (CHF 5,850 a semester in the Preparatory Year), a CHF 5,000 deposit, a CHF 220 non-refundable application fee, CHF 150 HES-SO registration, health insurance of about CHF 2,100 a year if needed, and about CHF 150 a semester for study materials.
EU citizens do not get Swiss rates. Unless you live in Switzerland you pay the international fee, about CHF 124,000 in tuition over four years and around CHF 184,000 once compulsory fees are included, before housing. The Leaving Cert is not on EHL’s list of named qualifications, so get written confirmation from admissions early.
