About the course

A six-year, 360-ECTS Doctor of Medicine taught in English at EUC’s Nicosia campus. Clinical rotations take place in hospitals in Cyprus and abroad, including Greece, Germany, the USA and Tanzania.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The university assesses the Irish Leaving Certificate individually and does not publish a fixed Irish requirement. Contact admissions to confirm. For international applicants EUC asks for an average grade corresponding to 90% or above or its equivalent, with Biology plus one of Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics.
  • No written entrance exam. You apply with your school results and a reference sent directly by the issuing institution to medicine@euc.ac.cy. Medicine applicants are invited to an interview covering motivation, school work, broader knowledge, hobbies and personal interests.
  • English: EUC accepts secondary schooling taught in English, or IELTS Academic 6.5, TOEFL iBT 79 or PTE Academic 66. Medicine applicants must provide official proof (the placement test option is not available to them), so ask Admissions what document they want from an Irish school.

Working in Ireland afterwards

Because your medical degree comes from an EU/EEA country, the Medical Council of Ireland can recognise it automatically under EU Directive 2005/36/EC, as long as it is listed in Annex V (point 5.1.1). If that listing says the degree must come with an internship or state-exam certificate from your home country, you need to have that too, and you must also show your current professional standing and meet the English-language requirements. Graduates of EU/EEA medical schools may apply to the HSE for Irish intern posts, but only if their home-country degree does not already count as complete training. In older HSE intern guides (e.g., the 2022 guide), only graduates from medical schools in Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Iceland and Slovenia could apply. Graduates from other EEA countries (and Italians holding the ‘abilitante’ degree) were told they are not eligible, because they qualify directly for General registration. Applicants who need no work permit were matched before those who do. Please check the current eligibility list in the HSE intern guide for the year you apply. We could not confirm it for the July 2027 intake because the current HSE guide pages are password-protected.

How to apply

  1. Check your gradesYou need an average corresponding to 90% or above, with Biology plus one of Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics. Ask Admissions how they convert Leaving Cert grades.
  2. Apply onlineComplete the EUC online application (non-refundable 200 euro fee). Upload your results or predicted grades and proof of English, and ask your school to send a reference directly to medicine@euc.ac.cy.
  3. InterviewMedicine applicants are invited to interview on motivation, school work, broader knowledge and interests. Ask Admissions for the dates for the October 2027 intake.
  4. Accept your offerConfirm within one week of the offer and pay the down payment against tuition, then arrange accommodation in Nicosia for the October start.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: EUC does not publish a fixed application deadline for Medicine. The next intake shown on the website is October 2026. Medicine applicants are invited to interview, and anyone offered a place must confirm within one week of being told and pay a down payment against tuition. Apply early and confirm the dates for the October 2027 intake with Admissions..

Costs

  • EUC does not show the Medicine fee on its programme page. Fees are in downloadable fee schedules (separate PDFs for Cypriot, Greek and international students) on the Tuition Fees page, and we could not open them. Ask Admissions for the current EU fee before applying. Known one-off costs: a non-refundable application fee of 200 euro for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine, and a down payment against tuition due within one week of being offered a place (EUC’s undergraduate page lists 1,100 euro for on-campus programmes; non-EU students pay a 3,000 euro deposit instead).
Cyprus is an EU country, so the Medical Council of Ireland can recognise this degree automatically under Directive 2005/36/EC if it is listed in Annex V, provided you also show current professional standing and meet the English-language requirements. Cyprus was not on the list of countries whose graduates could apply for Irish intern posts in older HSE guides, so check the current HSE intern guide for the year you apply.
