About the course

This is a broad media degree taught in English. It combines practical production in audio, video, radio, documentary and internet TV/radio with journalism for digital platforms, public relations and campaigns, communication law and media ethics, and media theory. It includes a communication internship and a senior-year project. It can be studied full-time or part-time and has at least 240 ECTS.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • UNIC does not publish rules specific to the Irish Leaving Certificate. It asks for a recognised high school leaving certificate, which a completed Leaving Cert should satisfy. There is no published points or H-grade cut-off. Students with lower school grades (below 7.5/10 or the equivalent) get extra academic support in first year. Confirm with UNIC Admissions how they will assess your Leaving Cert grades.
  • There is no entrance exam, interview or portfolio for this programme, and no Maths or subject requirement is listed.
  • English: UNIC asks for IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 72, or an equivalent such as C in GCSE/IGCSE English as a first language or in A Level English. The Irish Leaving Certificate is not named on this list. Applicants with lower scores (IELTS 4.5 or above) take UNIC’s English placement test and may get support classes. Ask Admissions in writing whether they accept your Leaving Cert English result.

How to apply

  1. Check the programme and ask about Irish resultsRead the programme page. Then email UNIC Admissions (admissions@unic.ac.cy) to confirm how they assess the Leaving Cert, whether Leaving Cert English meets the language requirement, and what the EU deadline is.
  2. Apply onlineComplete the UNIC application. Include a copy of your passport and your school certificates and transcripts (mock or predicted grades until your final results are out), and pay the €60 application fee. Apply well before the indicative late-June deadline.
  3. Send your Leaving Cert resultsSend your final Leaving Certificate results to Admissions as soon as they are issued in August 2027, so that any conditional offer can be confirmed.
  4. Accept, pay and registerAccept your offer, pay the first tuition instalment as UNIC sets out, register in Cyprus as an EU citizen, and start classes in September 2027.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: UNIC admits students on a rolling basis. Its admission requirements page gives deadlines of late June for the September intake and late October for the February intake, but it says these apply to non-EU students. EU and Cypriot applicants are told to contact the Admissions Department for their deadline. No 2027 date has been published, so apply early..

Costs

  • UNIC’s 2026/27 fee list for Cypriot and other EU students gives €10,200 a year in tuition for this degree. That is €170 per ECTS credit, with 60 ECTS in a full year. Each semester you also pay a €30 registration fee, a €20 student activities fee and a €15 technology fee, and there is a one-off €60 application fee. Tuition is paid as a down payment each semester (€1,500 in the 2026/27 example) and then in monthly instalments. UNIC is a private university, so there is no free-fees route, but it offers some scholarships to full-time EU undergraduates based on merit, sport or financial need. The 2027/28 fees have not been published yet.
UNIC is a private university, so expect about €10,200 a year in tuition (2026/27 figure) plus living costs. It has no separate Journalism BA. Journalism is taught within this broader media degree.
