About the course

This five-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine is taught in English at UNIC’s School of Veterinary Medicine in Nicosia, with clinical skills training and partner veterinary clinics. It is accredited by the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (CYQAA).

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The university assesses the Irish Leaving Certificate individually and does not publish a fixed Irish requirement. Contact admissions to confirm.
  • The published general standard is a high school leaving certificate with 90% overall, including Biology and one of Chemistry, Physics or Maths. The equivalents are ABB at A Level (Biology, plus one science, plus one more subject) or 32 in the IB (16 at Higher Level, including Biology and a science).
  • There is a mandatory in-person or online interview that assesses your suitability, including relevant volunteer experience. The English requirement is IELTS 6.5 (6.5 in writing and at least 6.0 in each other section) or TOEFL iBT 79. Graduates of English-speaking high schools in Ireland are exempt.

Working in Ireland afterwards

Veterinary degrees from EU member states listed in Annex V (point 5.4.2) of Directive 2005/36/EC are recognised qualifications you can register with at the Veterinary Council of Ireland, which in effect means automatic recognition. You still need to apply to the VCI to register before you can practise. Check the VCI’s list of recognised qualifications to confirm your specific degree is on it.

How to apply

  1. Register and apply onlineCreate an account on UNIC’s applicant portal and complete the DVM application. The application fee is 60 euro.
  2. Submit documentsUpload your results or predicted grades and details of relevant volunteer or animal experience. Ask admissions how your Leaving Certificate will be compared with the 90% standard.
  3. InterviewAttend the admissions interview, which is held in person or online.
  4. Accept and pay depositIf you receive an offer, pay the 3,500 euro seat deposit and the 1,500 euro administrative fee (both deducted from first-semester tuition) before the September start.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: The DVM pages give no application deadline. UNIC’s general admissions page says applications for the Fall (September) semester should arrive by late June, and it tells EU applicants to contact admissions for their deadlines. Applicants are interviewed in person or online after they apply..

Costs

  • Tuition is 21,000 euro a year for all five years; the fee page gives one tuition rate and does not show a separate EU rate. For Fall 2026 entrants, UNIC gave an automatic 10% scholarship for the whole course, and students could apply for a further 10% need-based scholarship (up to 20% in total). There is a one-off, non-refundable application fee of 60 euro. The 1,500 euro administrative fee and the 3,500 euro seat deposit are both deducted from first-semester tuition, and the deposit is fully refunded if you decide not to join. Every year you also pay malpractice insurance (300 euro in Years 1 to 4 and 600 to 700 euro in Year 5), EMS malpractice insurance (100 euro) and personal accident insurance (50 euro). The university estimates living costs in Nicosia at a minimum of 12,000 euro a year.
Veterinary degrees from EU member states that are listed in Annex V (point 5.4.2) of Directive 2005/36/EC can be registered with the Veterinary Council of Ireland. You must still apply to the VCI, so check its list of recognised qualifications to confirm this degree is included.
