About the course

An English-taught bachelor’s at a private, Czech-accredited university in Prague. It combines standard journalism courses with media studies, film studies and marketing/public relations. A Public Relations and Marketing specialisation is also listed.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • There is no Czech rule that gives the Leaving Certificate automatic entry, and there is no official list of required Leaving Cert subjects or grades. Anglo-American University says your school-leaving certificate must be recognised before you can enrol on its Czech-accredited programmes. It does this in-house at no extra cost. If your certificate does not meet all its recognition criteria, you need nostrification from a Czech regional education authority instead. That costs CZK 3,000 and needs a legalised or apostilled certificate and transcript with Czech translations. A decision takes 30 to 60 days, and you may have to sit exams held in Czech. Ask admissions early whether your Leaving Cert qualifies for in-house recognition.
  • You apply with school transcripts, recommendation letters, a personal statement of 250 to 650 words, a CV and proof of English. You then have an online interview (Google Meet), and a decision usually follows within a week. All new degree students take placement tests in English composition and maths. These are for placement only. The university publishes no Leaving Cert grade or points minimum.
  • English: B2 level is required, for example TOEFL iBT 72 or IELTS 6.0. You do not need a test if you have completed at least 12 months of English-medium study in an English-speaking country. Most Irish students should meet this, but students from Irish-medium schools should check with admissions.

How to apply

  1. Ask admissions about recognitionFrom autumn 2026, ask AAU whether your Leaving Cert qualifies for its free in-house recognition or whether you need regional nostrification (CZK 3,000, Czech translations, possible exams).
  2. Prepare documentsGather your transcripts, recommendation letters, a 250-650 word personal statement and a CV. Arrange certified copies and an Irish apostille in good time. Results come out in late August, so agree with AAU how and when to send them.
  3. Apply online and interviewApply through the AAU online application, which is open all year, and then do the online interview. A decision usually follows within a week.
  4. Accept and payAccept your offer and arrange tuition (EUR 5,185 a semester in 2026/27, expected to rise by about 5% for new students). Complete recognition before you enrol and take the placement tests when you start in autumn 2027.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Admissions are rolling all year. Applicants who do not need a visa, such as Irish and other EU citizens, can apply up to one week before the semester starts. Applicants who need a visa must apply at least 10 weeks before. Leave extra time for diploma recognition and apply well before the autumn 2027 start. No dated deadline for 2027 has been published..

Costs

  • EU/EFTA students pay CZK 125,489 a semester for 2026/27 (about EUR 5,185 at the December 2025 exchange rate). That is about EUR 10,370 a year and CZK 752,934 (about EUR 31,110) for the whole degree. The university expects fees to rise by about 5% for new students starting after 31 August 2026, so 2027 entrants should expect to pay more. Fees are set in Czech crowns, so the euro amount changes with the exchange rate. The university charges an application fee, but its amount was not shown on the pages checked.
This is a private university and tuition is about EUR 10,000 or more a year, while Czech-language programmes at public universities are free. Your Leaving Cert must be formally recognised before you enrol, so arrange the apostille and recognition early.
