About the course

A three-year programme taught fully in English that covers theoretical and applied economics and finance, with a focus on analytical reasoning and problem-solving. Core faculty teach alongside professionals from central banks, commercial banks and investment firms. About half of each class is international.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Charles University does not mention the Irish Leaving Certificate on its pages for this programme. The faculty checks foreign school-leaving certificates itself, free of charge, and the result counts only for its own admissions. It may ask for general nostrification from a Czech authority if anything is unclear. You need the original or a notarised copy of your Leaving Cert certificate and results, with an apostille, and you hand in the hard copies at registration in September. Confirm with admissions@fsv.cuni.cz that the Leaving Cert is accepted.
  • Maths: you must show strong school maths. The accepted proofs listed are the IB Diploma (Group 5, at least 30/42), A-Level Maths (at least ABB), SAT, ACT, AP Calculus, CSAT, SCIO, or the final exam of Charles University’s Introductory Mathematics course. The Leaving Cert is not on the list, so ask admissions whether Higher Level Maths counts or whether you should take the SAT. The committee gives 0-45 points for maths, 0-45 for English and 0-10 for your general profile.
  • English: you need B2 level (IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 83 or Cambridge 180). No test is needed if you are a native English speaker or have studied in English at secondary school for at least two years. That should cover most Irish applicants, but confirm it with admissions.

How to apply

  1. Prepare your maths proofThe Leaving Cert is not on the list of accepted maths proofs. Ask admissions early whether Higher Level Maths counts. If it does not, book the SAT or ACT (results from the intake year or the previous three years are accepted).
  2. Apply onlineApplications open on 1 November 2026. Apply through the Charles University portal and upload your school records, a structured CV, a motivation letter, and proof of your English and maths levels. Pay the CZK 940 fee.
  3. Meet a deadlineThe early-bird deadline is 28 February 2027 and the regular deadline is 30 April 2027. Results come by email 3 to 4 weeks after the deadline.
  4. Send your certified Leaving CertAfter your results come out in August, get an apostille on your certificate and results. Hand in the originals or notarised copies at the in-person registration in September, or post them to the International Office by the end of September.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Applications open on 1 November 2026. The early-bird deadline is 28 February 2027 and the regular deadline is 30 April 2027. The faculty publishes decisions 3 to 4 weeks after each deadline. For 2026 entry there were also late rounds (30 June and 31 August 2026), but no later rounds had been published for 2027 when this was checked..

Costs

  • EUR 7,000 per year for the 2027/28 intake. The faculty does not publish a separate EU rate for this English-taught programme. The Dean sets the fee for the whole academic year, and it is paid in two instalments, one each semester. There is also an application fee of CZK 940 (about EUR 38), which cannot be waived. Students with excellent results can get scholarships of up to a full tuition waiver.
There is no entrance exam, but the Leaving Cert is not on the list of accepted maths proofs. Irish applicants should ask admissions early whether Higher Level Maths counts, or plan to take the SAT or ACT. Fees are EUR 7,000 a year, and there is no lower EU rate.
