About the course

A three-year, full-time interdisciplinary humanities degree taught entirely in English at the Faculty of Humanities in Prague, finishing with a bachelor’s thesis.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • There is no Czech rule that gives the Leaving Certificate direct entry, and the faculty publishes no Leaving Cert grade or subject minimum. You need a completed school-leaving certificate that is formally recognised in one of two ways. The first is the faculty’s own assessment, which costs about CZK 990 and takes up to 30 days. The second is nostrification from a Czech regional authority. Irish documents usually need an apostille and certified copies. You are not formally admitted until the certificate has been accepted, so confirm the exact documents with the admissions office.
  • Admission depends on your percentile score in the Scio General Academic Prerequisites (GAP) test. It has 54 multiple-choice questions on verbal reasoning, text analysis and vocabulary, and on logical and numerical reasoning. The Dean sets the pass percentile each year, based on how many people apply and how many the faculty can take. There is no separate maths subject requirement.
  • You do not need an English certificate. The faculty says the entrance test checks your English.

How to apply

  1. Apply online (November to March)Apply through the Charles University e-application from 1 November and pay the CZK 940 fee. In the 2026 cycle the deadline was 31 March, so plan for about the same date in 2027.
  2. Sit the GAP testBook a Scio GAP test date between January and April. In 2026 the dates were 31 January, 28 February, 28 March and 25 April, and the faculty paid for the 25 April sitting.
  3. Prepare your Leaving Cert documentsBefore results come out, arrange the apostille, certified copies and your recognition route: the faculty’s assessment (about CZK 990) or nostrification.
  4. Submit results by 30 SeptemberOnce you get your Leaving Cert results in late August, send the recognised certificate by 30 September. The extended deadline for those still in recognition is 22 October. Then enrol and pay the EUR 5,000 yearly fee.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: For 2026/27 entry, applications opened on 1 November 2025 and closed on 31 March 2026. The GAP entrance test dates were 31 January, 28 February, 28 March and 25 April 2026. The 25 April sitting was the one the faculty paid for. School-leaving certificates had to be in by 30 September 2026, or 22 October 2026 for applicants still going through recognition. The 2027 dates were not published when this was checked, but expect a similar end-of-March deadline..

Costs

  • EUR 5,000 a year, paid each academic year. The faculty says the fee is the same for EU and non-EU students. The online application fee is CZK 940 (about EUR 38), and the faculty’s own check of a foreign school-leaving certificate costs about CZK 990. The faculty pays for one GAP entrance test sitting on its own test date for applicants who have finished their application and paid the fee. Other test dates are paid to the test provider.
Getting in depends on your score in the GAP entrance test, not on your Leaving Cert points. Irish students still need to have their Leaving Cert formally recognised before 30 September, so arrange the apostille and paperwork early.
