About the course

A three-year bachelor’s (Bc.) at CTU’s Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Prague, taught in English. It combines electrical engineering with computer science, mixing theory with practical training, and prepares you for work or a master’s degree.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The Leaving Cert does not give automatic entry in the Czech Republic. Your certificate must be formally recognised (nostrification). CTU does this itself for a non-refundable fee of CZK 950. You apply through CTU’s NOS system (nostrifikace.cvut.cz) with notarised copies of your Leaving Cert and statement of results, plus proof of payment. Irish documents will likely need an apostille. Documents in English do not need translating. CTU publishes no list of Leaving Cert subjects or grades.
  • Admission is by a remote entrance exam held as an online interview. FEL does not publish the topics or a maths level, so ask FEL admissions whether you need Higher Level Maths.
  • You need a certificate showing excellent English: TOEFL iBT 70, IELTS 6 or TOEIC 800. Duolingo is not accepted. FEL’s page lists no exemption for native speakers or for Leaving Cert English, so plan to sit one of these tests unless FEL tells you otherwise in writing. Your spoken English is also assessed in the interview.

How to apply

  1. Book an English testTake IELTS (6.0), TOEFL iBT (70) or TOEIC (800) early in 6th year. Duolingo is not accepted. Also write a letter of motivation.
  2. Apply by mid-AugustApply through CTU’s e-application (prihlaska.cvut.cz) and pay the CZK 950 admission fee. Send your transcript, motivation letter and English certificate. The 2026 deadline was 14 August.
  3. Online interview and recognitionSit the online interview (18 to 28 August in 2026). Apply to CTU’s NOS system for recognition of your Leaving Cert (CZK 950), with notarised and apostilled copies, as soon as results arrive.
  4. EnrolSubmit the recognition result by 30 September. Enrol in September and pay tuition of CZK 55,000 a semester.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: FEL has not yet published its 2027 dates. For 2026/27 entry, you had to submit the application and pay the admission fee by 14 August 2026. The online interview was expected between 18 and 28 August 2026. FEL asked for the application to recognise your school-leaving certificate (nostrification) to be filed by 21 August 2026, with the result submitted by 30 September 2026. Enrolment was on 10 or 17 September 2026. Expect similar dates for 2027 and confirm them with FEL admissions..

Costs

  • FEL CTU’s official fees page gives CZK 110,000 a year (CZK 55,000 a semester) for full-time bachelor’s study in English. That is roughly €4,400, but the euro amount moves with the exchange rate. You can pay by bank transfer in Czech koruna, US dollars or euro, and you pay any bank charges. There is no separate EU rate. You also pay an admission fee of CZK 950 (about €39) before you submit your application. CTU’s assessment of your Leaving Cert is a separate fee of CZK 950, and it is not refunded.
The deadline falls before Leaving Cert results: in 2026 it was 14 August, with online interviews from 18 to 28 August. You also need IELTS 6, TOEFL iBT 70 or TOEIC 800, because FEL lists no exemption for native speakers. Tuition is CZK 110,000 a year, with no EU discount.
