About the course

A five-year Czech dental degree (MDDr.) taught entirely in English at Palacky University’s Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry in Olomouc, with a strong focus on practical training. It runs alongside the English-taught General Medicine programme.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The university assesses the Irish Leaving Certificate individually and does not publish a fixed Irish requirement. For Dentistry it asks for completed secondary education equivalent to A-levels in three subjects, with no minimum grades stated. You can apply before you finish school. Contact admissions to confirm how the Leaving Certificate is treated.
  • Entrance exam: in the 2026 cycle this was a written test in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics, taken online or in person, with sample tests on the faculty website. Confirm the 2027 format.
  • English: in the 2026 cycle the faculty accepted Cambridge FCE or higher, IELTS 6, TOEFL 87 or PTE Academic 59, or its own English test. Applicants whose secondary or tertiary education was in English were exempt.

Working in Ireland afterwards

A dental degree from an EU member state that is listed in the EU Professional Qualifications Directive (2005/36/EC, as amended) can be recognised automatically by the Dental Council of Ireland. To get this, you provide a certificate from your home country’s competent authority confirming the degree meets the Directive’s minimum training conditions, plus proof of English-language proficiency. EU dental degrees that do not qualify for automatic recognition may instead be assessed under the Directive.

Costs

  • EUR 14,000 per year for the English-taught Dentistry programme, as published by the faculty for September 2026 entry. No separate EU rate is published, so Irish/EU students should expect to pay this fee. There is also a non-refundable application fee of EUR 80 (2026 cycle), paid online. Check the 2027 fee with the faculty before applying.
Dental degrees from EU member states that meet Directive 2005/36/EC are normally recognised automatically in Ireland by the Dental Council. You usually need a certificate from the Czech authorities confirming the degree meets the Directive, plus proof of English. Check the current rules with the Dental Council. The English-taught Medicine programme has compulsory Czech classes in the first three years. The Dentistry page does not mention this, so ask the faculty whether Czech classes are part of Dentistry.
