About the course

The American BA covers global politics, diplomacy and security, and you choose one of three concentrations: Diplomacy & International Law, Conflict & Security Studies, or Global Governance. Core courses include European Integration, and the programme also offers internships, Model UN and research projects. It is taught entirely in English.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • UNYP asks applicants to have finished secondary education equivalent to the Czech maturita, and it publishes no Leaving Cert subject or grade rules. If you want the optional Czech-accredited Bc. degree, your Leaving Cert must be formally recognised in the Czech Republic through nostrification. UNYP says it offers simplified guidance on this. Confirm with admissions how your Leaving Cert will be assessed, and arrange certified copies and an apostille early.
  • Every applicant has an admissions interview, which is a 30-minute online meeting with the dean, and some may also need to sit a maths placement test. You also send the application form, a certified copy of your school-leaving certificate, official transcripts, a personal statement, one recommendation letter and a copy of your passport or ID.
  • English: applicants not educated in English need TOEFL iBT 72, IELTS Academic 6.0, Duolingo 105 or Pearson PTE 50, or they can take UNYP’s own English assessment. UNYP only says the test can be waived after a previous degree taught fully in English. Irish students educated through English should ask admissions to confirm they do not need a test.

How to apply

  1. Check the degree optionsDecide whether you want only the American BA or the optional Czech Bc. degree as well. The Czech degree needs your Leaving Cert to be recognised through nostrification, so ask admissions@unyp.cz what this involves for you.
  2. Apply onlineFill in the form at application.unyp.cz and pay the application fee (CZK 2,000 in 2025/26). Upload your transcripts, personal statement, recommendation letter and passport copy. Admissions are rolling, so apply early for Fall 2027.
  3. InterviewDo the 30-minute online interview with the dean, plus a maths placement test if you are asked to. UNYP says it gives a decision within 1 to 2 weeks of the interview.
  4. Send Leaving Cert results and enrolAfter results come out in late August, send certified, apostilled copies of your Leaving Cert along with any recognition documents. Then confirm your enrolment and plan how you will pay the fees.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: UNYP uses rolling admissions with Fall and Spring intakes, and it does not publish a fixed closing date. It says applications are decided within 1 to 2 weeks of the interview. Apply early for a Fall 2027 start so there is time for the interview, the check of your Leaving Cert and your move to Prague. Confirm current dates with admissions@unyp.cz..

Costs

  • UNYP lists undergraduate tuition for EU/EFTA nationals in 2026/27 as CZK 258,500 a year. The university gives this as about €10,692, and the euro amount will change with the exchange rate. The same fee applies to the American and European (Czech) bachelor’s degrees. UNYP says the fee depends on how many credits you take each semester, so it can vary. The 2025/26 fee sheet listed a one-off application fee of CZK 2,000, a student body fee of CZK 6,900 per semester and a one-off graduation fee of CZK 3,500. The 2026/27 page does not list these extras separately. Fees for 2027/28 are not published yet.
UNYP is a private university, and tuition is about €10,700 a year for EU students, so there is no free tuition as there is on Czech-taught programmes at public universities. The main degree is American, and the Czech Bc. is optional and needs formal recognition of your Leaving Cert.
