About the course

A six-year Master’s programme taught in English that covers the full breadth of veterinary medicine, with a particular focus on diagnosing, treating and preventing disease in different animal species. It ends with a state examination made up of several partial exams in clinical subjects chosen by the student, and students may write an optional thesis. Graduates receive the title Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (MVDr.). Entry is by a written entrance exam in biology and chemistry.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The university assesses the Irish Leaving Certificate individually and does not publish a fixed Irish requirement. You need to have completed full secondary education and, because your school is outside the Czech Republic, provide documents showing it is equivalent. Contact admissions to confirm what they need for the Leaving Cert.
  • Selection is by a written multiple-choice entrance exam in biology and chemistry at secondary-school level. For 2026/27 it had 37 biology and 37 chemistry questions, lasted up to 120 minutes, and you needed at least 18 points in each subject. Studying Leaving Cert Biology and Chemistry is strongly advisable.
  • The faculty does not state a separate English test requirement, but you must be able to study entirely in English. Check the 2027/28 conditions when they are published.

Working in Ireland afterwards

Veterinary degrees from EU member states listed in Annex V (point 5.4.2) of Directive 2005/36/EC are recognised qualifications you can register with at the Veterinary Council of Ireland, which in effect means automatic recognition. You still need to apply to the VCI to register before you can practise. Check the VCI’s list of recognised qualifications to confirm your specific degree is on it.

Round two: apply by 14 July 2026, then sit the exam between 15 July and 2 August 2026.
