About the course

A three-year, 180 ECTS computer science degree taught entirely in English on Gisma’s Berlin campus. It covers algorithmic thinking, programming, systems design, artificial intelligence, simulation, and computer and data security, and includes a six-month internship.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Gisma asks for a school-leaving certificate that allows you to apply for a bachelor’s programme in the country where it was issued, which the Leaving Certificate does. Under German recognition rules (KMK/ZAB) the Leaving Cert gives direct university entry only with six subjects: at least two at Higher Level with H5 or better, the other four at O6/H6 or better, including two languages and Maths at O5/H6 or better. For computer science (maths/science group), German rules also ask for Higher Level Maths at H5 and a Higher Level science at H5. Gisma publishes nothing Irish-specific, so confirm with admissions how it will assess your subjects.
  • Entrance test: the programme page says international students must sit an entrance test but gives no format or details. Ask admissions whether it applies to Irish/EU applicants. A Foundation Programme is available for those who need extra preparation.
  • English: B2 level is required, i.e. IELTS 6.0 overall with no component below 5.5, or equivalent TOEFL iBT, Pearson PTE or Duolingo scores. Gisma also offers an English test free of charge. The page does not say whether Leaving Cert English is accepted instead, so ask admissions.

How to apply

  1. Check your subjectsMake sure your Leaving Cert subjects meet the German rules, ideally with Higher Level Maths and a Higher Level science at H5 or better, and ask Gisma admissions to confirm your profile.
  2. Apply onlineComplete the online application at apply.gisma.com for the January, April, July or October intake and upload your school results and passport. You can apply before you have proof of English.
  3. Entrance test and EnglishSit the entrance test if required and show B2 English, either with IELTS 6.0 (no component below 5.5) or equivalent, or through Gisma’s free English test.
  4. Pay deposit and find housingAfter your acceptance letter, pay the programme deposit to secure your place, then arrange accommodation in Berlin early.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Intakes are in January, April, July and October. Gisma’s programme and how-to-apply pages give no fixed application deadline. Apply online several months ahead of your chosen intake so there is time for the entrance test and to find accommodation, and confirm the closing date with admissions..

Costs

  • Gisma is a private, state-recognised university of applied sciences. Its fees page lists €13,825 a year for three-year bachelor’s degrees under ‘Gisma Tuition Fees 2026 Intakes’, about €41,475 over three years. Gisma says fees may vary depending on your applicant status, so ask admissions for a written quote for 2027. You pay a programme deposit to secure your place (the fees page gives €1,500 for most international students, and €3,000 or a full year’s fee in some cases), and fees can be spread over instalments. No application fee is listed. Rent and living costs in Berlin come on top.
Gisma is a private university charging €13,825 a year, while public German universities charge EU students only a semester contribution. Compare it with tuition-free English-taught computer science courses at public universities before committing.
