About the course

A 7-semester (210 ECTS) degree taught entirely in English that combines business administration and IT. Three semesters of foundations are followed by a paid six-month company internship in semester 4, then specialisation in Digital Business Management, Applied Computer Science, or Data Science and AI, plus electives, finishing with a bachelor’s thesis.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • HFU does not publish anything specific to Ireland. Under German rules (KMK/ZAB), the Leaving Cert gives direct university entry only with six general subjects, including at least two at Higher Level at H5 or better, the other four at O6/H6 or better, and two languages and Maths at O5/H6 or better among them. LCA and LCVP are not accepted. Confirm with HFU admissions how your results are assessed.
  • Because this course mixes business and computing, expect to need Higher Level Maths at H5 or better at minimum. If it is treated as an engineering, maths and science subject area, you would also need a Higher Level science subject at H5. Ask admissions which category applies before you choose Leaving Cert levels.
  • English: HFU asks for TOEFL iBT 79, IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. The programme page does not say whether Leaving Cert English counts as equivalent, so ask admissions before booking a test.

How to apply

  1. Check your subjectsMake sure your planned Leaving Cert subjects and levels meet the German rules, including Higher Level Maths at H5 or better, and ask HFU which subject area this course falls under.
  2. Sort out proof of EnglishAsk HFU whether Leaving Cert English is accepted. If not, sit TOEFL iBT (79+) or IELTS (6.0+) in good time.
  3. Apply online by 15 July 2027Use the ‘Apply now for IBS’ link on the programme page for October 2027 entry. Check there whether you apply on HFU’s portal directly or through uni-assist, and upload your Leaving Cert results and English proof.
  4. Enrol and pay the semester feeIf you are offered a place, enrol and pay the semester fee (€176 in 2026/27). Arrange housing in Furtwangen, a small town in the Black Forest, early.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: 15 July for October (winter semester) entry; 15 January for March (summer semester) entry. HFU publishes these as standing annual deadlines; confirm the exact 2027 dates and whether any earlier pre-check applies to applicants with foreign school certificates..

Costs

  • No tuition fees for EU students. All HFU students pay a semester fee of €176 each semester (about €352 a year). The six-month internship in semester 4 is paid. HFU’s programme page does not mention an application fee; confirm when you apply.
There is no tuition, only a €176 semester fee, and semester 4 is a paid six-month internship. Plan on Higher Level Maths at H5 or better, and note the course runs for 3.5 years, not the usual three.
