About the course

A 7-semester (210 ECTS) applied degree in food science and food processing technology. Modules are offered in English and German and the university says you can take the programme fully or partly in either language; there is also an 8-semester (240 ECTS) ‘Food Technology PLUS’ version with two semesters abroad.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • German recognition rules (KMK/ZAB) give the Leaving Certificate direct university entry only with the right subject mix: six subjects, at least two at Higher Level H5 or better, the other four at O6/H6 or better, including two languages and Maths at O5/H6 or better. For engineering and science courses like this one you also need Higher Level Maths at H5 and a Higher Level science subject at H5. HS Fulda publishes nothing specific to Ireland, so confirm with admissions.
  • The programme has restricted admission (limited places). The page does not mention an entrance test or interview. Your language skills are assessed when you apply, and that decides whether you study in English, German or a mix.
  • The English option requires English at B2 level. Applicants whose school-leaving qualification comes from an English-speaking institution are exempt, so a Leaving Cert from an Irish school should normally be enough. Confirm with ft-applications@hs-fulda.de.

How to apply

  1. Check your subjectsMake sure your Leaving Cert meets the German rules: Higher Level Maths and a Higher Level science at H5 or better, plus the general six-subject rule.
  2. Prepare documentsGather your Leaving Cert results, passport and any proof of English. Say that you want to study in English.
  3. Apply 1 May to 15 July 2027Apply through HS Fulda’s application portal within the window. International applications are handled by ft-applications@hs-fulda.de.
  4. Accept and enrolIf you get an offer, accept it, pay the semester contribution and enrol before the winter semester. Plan the 8-week basic internship, which must be done by the start of semester 4.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Applications for winter-semester entry run from 1 May to 15 July, for both German and foreign school certificates. Winter start only. These are the dates currently published; confirm the 2027 dates with HS Fulda..

Costs

  • No tuition fees for EU students at this public university of applied sciences. You pay a semester contribution each semester (in Germany usually about €150–400 per semester). HS Fulda’s exact amount could not be confirmed, so check the university’s costs page before budgeting. No application fee is mentioned on the programme page.
The course is taught in both English and German. You can take it in English, but your language skills are assessed when you apply, and German helps a lot with internships and part-time work. It takes 7 semesters (3.5 years) and includes a compulsory 8-week internship.
