About the course

A seven-semester (210 ECTS) engineering degree taught entirely in English. It combines electrical and mechanical engineering foundations with specialisation in later semesters. The fifth semester is an industrial placement, and at least one semester must be spent abroad in a foreign-language country for credit, which can be the placement semester. A dual-study option combining the degree with practical training is also offered.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Germany’s rules (KMK/ZAB on anabin) say the Leaving Certificate gives direct entry only with the right subject mix: six subjects, at least two at Higher Level H5 or better and the rest at O6/H6 or better, including two languages and Maths at O5/H6 or better. For engineering you also need Higher Level Maths at H5 and a Higher Level science at H5. The university does not publish Irish-specific rules, so confirm with admissions.
  • The course has no admission restriction: there is no grade cut-off (numerus clausus), entrance test or interview. Applicants with school certificates from outside Germany must have them validated by uni-assist, which issues a preliminary review documentation (VPD). Since summer 2025 Kempten accepts only a VPD issued specifically for Kempten.
  • You need English at B1 (CEFR). Native speakers and holders of English-language qualifications are exempt, so ask admissions to confirm your Leaving Cert English counts. You also need basic German (A1): the programme page says to reach it by the end of the first semester. The university’s language page describes it as evidence to provide, so check when proof is due. The deadline for language evidence is 30 September for a winter start.

How to apply

  1. Check your subjectsMake sure your Leaving Cert will include Higher Level Maths at H5 or better and a Higher Level science at H5 or better, plus the general German subject-mix rules.
  2. Get a Kempten-specific uni-assist VPDIn spring 2027, apply to uni-assist for a preliminary review documentation (VPD) of your Leaving Cert issued for Kempten (VPDs issued for other universities are not accepted). Allow several weeks for processing.
  3. Apply on MeinCampusApply online through Kempten’s MeinCampus portal during the 2027 application window (mid-April to 31 August in 2026). Forward your VPD within the deadline and send your English and German evidence by 30 September.
  4. Enrol and learn basic GermanAccept your place, pay the semester fee and enrol for the October start. Reach A1 German by the end of the first semester if you have not already.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Winter-semester start only (October). For 2026 entry, applications ran from about mid-April to 31 August 2026 on MeinCampus. International Engineering closes earlier than the 30 September extended deadline that many other Kempten programmes use. Your uni-assist VPD must reach the Academic Registry within the application deadline, and language evidence by 30 September. The 2027 dates are not yet published. Expect a similar window of mid-April to 31 August 2027, and start your Kempten-specific uni-assist VPD early in spring 2027..

Costs

  • No tuition for EU students, including Irish students, at this public university of applied sciences. You pay only the standard semester fee each semester; the university did not publish the amount on the pages checked, so confirm it at enrolment (German public universities typically charge roughly EUR 100-400). Kempten charges a EUR 500 per semester service fee on this English-taught programme from winter 2025/26, but only for non-EU students. EU and EEA citizens are explicitly exempt, so Irish citizens do not pay it.
Taught entirely in English and tuition-free for Irish students, who pay only the semester fee (the EUR 500 non-EU service fee does not apply to EU citizens). Note the earlier 31 August deadline and the Kempten-specific uni-assist VPD, and you still need Higher Level Maths and a Higher Level science at H5 to meet Germany’s engineering entry rule.
