Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Germany’s recognition rules say the Leaving Cert gives direct university entry if you have six subjects, including two languages and Maths at O5/H6 or better. At least two must be Higher Level at H5 or better, and the other four at O6/H6 or better. As a business/economics course it would also need Higher Level Maths at H5. If it is classed as a science course, you would need a Higher Level science at H5 as well. Confirm with admissions or uni-assist.
  • Open admission: there is no Numerus Clausus (grade cut-off), and the programme page mentions no aptitude test.
  • English: B2 level (CEFR). The programme page says this is usually shown by seven years of English at secondary school, so ask admissions whether your Leaving Cert English is enough.

How to apply

  1. Check your subjectsMake sure your Leaving Cert meets the German rules. Take Higher Level Maths and aim for H5 or better. A Higher Level science at H5 gives you extra cover.
  2. Get English proofAsk admissions whether your Leaving Cert and your secondary school English meet the B2 requirement, or whether you need a separate certificate.
  3. Apply via uni-assistSubmit your application through uni-assist by the deadline (15 July in the current cycle; confirm for 2027) and pay the handling fee.
  4. Enrol and moveEnrol, pay the semester contribution and find housing in Kleve before the course starts on 1 September.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Winter semester entry only (courses start on 1 September). The programme page gives a deadline of 15 July. Applications for 2026/27 are closed, so confirm the 2027 date on the university’s Forms and Deadlines page. Applicants with a school qualification from outside Germany apply through uni-assist..

Costs

  • No tuition fees for EU students at this public university. You pay only a semester contribution, which includes the Deutschlandticket. An earlier draft gave €365.10 for winter 2026/27 (about €730 a year), but this could not be confirmed on the official fees page, so check the current amount. uni-assist charges a separate handling fee for checking your Leaving Cert.
There is no tuition and no grade cut-off, but you should have Higher Level Maths at H5 to meet the German subject rules for this subject area.
