About the course

An interdisciplinary programme combining environmental science, energy engineering and business, taught entirely in English over seven semesters. In the sixth semester you either do an internship with a company in the environmental or energy sector or spend a semester abroad, followed by a bachelor’s thesis.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Germany: the Leaving Certificate gives direct university entry only with the subject and level combination German rules require. You need six subjects, including two languages and Maths. At least two must be at Higher Level with H5 or better, and the other four need at least H6 or O6. Maths must be at O5/H6 or better. LCA and LCVP are not accepted. Confirm your eligibility with uni-assist and the university’s admissions office.
  • Engineering and science courses: German rules also ask for Higher Level Maths at H5 or better and a Higher Level science subject at H5 or better.
  • English: the university asks for proof of English at B2 level (CEFR) from its list of accepted proofs. It is not confirmed whether the Leaving Cert counts as proof, so ask admissions.

How to apply

  1. Check eligibilityMake sure your Leaving Cert meets the German rules for engineering and science, including Higher Level Maths and a Higher Level science at H5 or better.
  2. Prepare documentsGet your Leaving Cert results and check with the university which proof of B2 English it accepts.
  3. Apply via uni-assistApply before the 15 July winter deadline. Apply early because the document check takes time.
  4. EnrolIf admitted, enrol, pay the semester contribution and start on 1 September in Kamp-Lintfort. Optional bridging courses run before the semester.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Winter semester entry only (Bachelor’s programmes start only in winter; the semester begins on 1 September). The university’s published deadline for bachelor’s programmes is 15 July. Applicants with school qualifications from outside Germany, including the Irish Leaving Certificate, apply through uni-assist, which checks documents before passing them to the university. Apply well before the deadline. The winter 2027/28 portal is not yet open, so confirm the date when it opens..

Costs

  • No tuition fees at this public university of applied sciences. You pay only a semester contribution, which includes the Deutschlandticket for public transport across Germany. The draft figure was about EUR 365 per semester (EUR 730.20 a year) for winter 2026/27, but this amount could not be confirmed on the university website, so check the current figure. uni-assist charges its own application processing fee.
You pay no tuition, only a semester contribution, and admission is unrestricted, but German entry rules for engineering and science mean you need Higher Level Maths and a Higher Level science at H5 or better.
