About the course

A business degree taught entirely in English. It covers business administration, economics, marketing, finance, business IT, supply chain management, HR and sustainability. The 5th semester is a compulsory semester abroad at a partner university, and the 7th combines an internship with the thesis. A double degree with Universidad Católica de Valencia is possible over eight semesters.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The Irish Leaving Certificate gives direct entry to German universities only with the right subject and level combination: six subjects, at least two at Higher Level with H5 or better, the other four at O6/H6 or better, including two languages and Maths at O5/H6 or better. For business and economics you also need Higher Level Maths at H5. Rhine-Waal publishes nothing Ireland-specific, so confirm with admissions.
  • Places are limited and allocated through a selection process under North Rhine-Westphalia rules, with your Leaving Cert converted to a German grade for ranking. You also need a mandatory 8-week preparatory internship or work placement, completed by the 4th semester enrolment deadline.
  • English at B2 level is required for English-taught programmes. The university’s list of accepted English proofs includes a secondary school diploma from Ireland, so Leaving Cert students do not normally need an English test.

How to apply

  1. Take Higher Level MathsMake sure you have Higher Level Maths at H5 or better and meet the other German subject and level rules.

Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Winter semester intake only (studies start on 1 September). The German-language programme page gives a winter semester deadline of 14 August. Other Rhine-Waal DoSV courses, such as International Relations, close on 15 July, and uni-assist needs processing time, so aim to apply by mid-July. Dates are from the 2026 cycle; confirm for 2027..

Costs

  • No tuition fees for EU students. You pay only a semester contribution, which is €365.10 for winter semester 2026/27 (including a Deutschlandticket), so about €730 a year. The compulsory semester abroad may bring extra travel and living costs. uni-assist charges its own application processing fee; check uni-assist.de.
You need Higher Level Maths at H5 to be eligible for a business course in Germany, and you must register on hochschulstart.de before applying through uni-assist.
