About the course

An interdisciplinary programme combining tourism with sustainability, sociology, economics and ecology, training students to manage the social, cultural and environmental impacts of tourism. It is taught in English over seven semesters at the Kleve campus and includes a compulsory preparatory internship.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Germany accepts the Leaving Certificate for direct university entry only with the right subject and level combination: six subjects, at least two at Higher Level at H5 or better, the other four at O6/H6 or better, including two languages and Maths at O5/H6 or better. LCA and LCVP are not accepted. The university publishes nothing Ireland-specific, so confirm with admissions.
  • As a social sciences/business programme it may need Higher Level Maths at H5 under German rules; confirm with uni-assist. Admission is open, so eligible applicants are not ranked on grades.
  • English at B2 level is required. The university’s list of accepted English proofs includes a secondary school diploma from Ireland, so the Leaving Certificate should cover this.

How to apply

  1. Check your subjectsMake sure your Leaving Cert meets the German rules, ideally with Higher Level Maths at H5 or better.
  2. Plan your internshipThe compulsory 8-week preparatory internship must be completed by the 4th-semester enrolment deadline.
  3. Apply via uni-assistSubmit your application and documents through uni-assist, aiming for 15 July 2027 at the latest.
  4. Enrol and payAccept your admission, pay the semester contribution (€365.10 in winter 2026/27) and enrol for the winter semester, which begins on 1 September.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Bachelor programmes start in the winter semester only (semester begins 1 September). The published deadline for winter 2026/27 open-admission bachelor programmes was 15 July; the 2027/28 date is not yet published, so confirm it on the university’s semester dates page. Applicants with a school certificate from outside Germany apply through uni-assist, which can take several weeks, so apply early..

Costs

  • No tuition fees. You pay a semester contribution of €365.10 for winter 2026/27 (about €730 a year if the summer amount is the same), which includes a Deutschlandticket for travel across Germany. uni-assist charges its own application processing fee.
There are no tuition fees and no cap on places, but you must meet the German Leaving Cert subject rules, and Higher Level Maths is the safe choice. Kleve is a small town, so budget for rent and consider learning some German for part-time work.
