About the course

A seven-semester (210 ECTS) business degree taught entirely in English. It covers areas such as marketing, accounting, law, international trade, finance and cross-cultural management, with practice-focused teaching and a bachelor thesis.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The Leaving Cert gives direct entry to German universities only with the right subject and level mix. You need six subjects, at least two at Higher Level with H5 or better and the rest at O6/H6 or better. They must include two languages and Maths at O5/H6 or better. For business and economics courses you also need Higher Level Maths at H5 or better. HTW Berlin publishes nothing Ireland-specific, so confirm with its admissions office.
  • The course has restricted admission (Zulassungsbeschränkung). You register with Hochschulstart and then apply on the HTW portal. Places go by ranking, and your Leaving Cert is converted to a German grade for this. The programme pages mention no entrance test, interview or portfolio.
  • English: HTW Berlin says you need no English proof if you got your school-leaving qualification in an English-speaking OECD country, so an Irish Leaving Cert holder is exempt. Other applicants need, for example, IELTS Academic 7.0, TOEFL iBT 95+, or Cambridge C1.

How to apply

  1. Check your subjectsMake sure your Leaving Cert choices meet the German rules for business, including Higher Level Maths at H5 or better.
  2. Register with HochschulstartThe course has limited places, so register first on hochschulstart.de and note your IDs before you apply to HTW Berlin.
  3. Apply on the HTW portalFor a winter 2027 start, apply between about 15 May and 15 July 2027 on the HTW Berlin application portal. Upload your Leaving Cert results; they come out in late August, so check with HTW how to handle this.
  4. Accept and enrolAccept your offer through Hochschulstart by the date given, pay the semester contribution to enrol, and look for Berlin accommodation early.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Winter semester (starts around October): for EU/EEA nationals, the HTW Berlin portal is open from 15 May to 15 July, and you must first register with Hochschulstart. Summer semester (starts around April): the HTW portal is open from 17 November to 15 January. These are the dates HTW Berlin currently publishes. Confirm them for 2027 on the programme’s application page. (The uni-assist window, 1 May to 30 June, is only for non-EU nationals with foreign certificates.).

Costs

  • No tuition fees. HTW Berlin is a public university of applied sciences, so you pay only a semester contribution each semester. German public institutions typically charge about €150–400 per semester. The exact HTW Berlin amount could not be confirmed for this listing, so check it before you budget. The fee is shown as 0 because there is no tuition. There is no application fee through the HTW portal.
The winter deadline, 15 July, falls before Irish Leaving Cert results come out, so ask HTW Berlin early how to apply with your results pending, or plan for a summer-semester (April) start. For business in Germany you need Higher Level Maths at H5 or better.
