About the course

A four-year (8 semester, 240 ECTS) business degree taught in English, covering core management plus a specialisation such as Marketing, Finance and Accounting, Human Resource Management, Organisational Design, Global Supply Chain Management or Operations Management. It includes two compulsory semesters at one of HWR’s partner universities abroad and a compulsory internship semester.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Germany’s recognition rules (KMK/ZAB, anabin) give Leaving Cert holders direct university entry only with the right subject mix: six subjects, at least two at Higher Level H5 or better, the rest at O6/H6 or better, including two languages and Maths (O5/H6 or better). For business courses you also need Higher Level Maths at H5 or better. LCA and LCVP are not accepted. Confirm with HWR/uni-assist.
  • Admission is restricted (numerus clausus): if there are more applicants than places, your Leaving Cert is converted to a German grade and you are ranked on it.
  • Language: you must show English at CEFR B2 level and German at CEFR A2 level. The programme page does not say whether Leaving Cert English counts as proof or which German certificates are accepted, so confirm with the admissions office before applying.

How to apply

  1. Check your subjectsMake sure your Leaving Cert meets the German rules for business, including Higher Level Maths at H5 or better, and plan to reach German at A2 level.
  2. Prepare your documentsGather your Leaving Cert results, passport, proof of English (B2) and proof of German at A2 level.
  3. Apply via uni-assistApply between 1 June and 15 July 2027 for October entry, getting it to uni-assist at least six weeks before the deadline.
  4. Accept and enrolIf offered a place, enrol with HWR Berlin, pay the semester contribution and arrange accommodation in Berlin early.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Winter semester (1 October start): application window 1 June to 15 July. Summer semester (1 April start): 1 December to 15 January. Applicants with a foreign school-leaving certificate such as the Leaving Cert apply via uni-assist, which should receive your application at least six weeks before the deadline. These are the standard dates on the programme page; confirm the 2027 dates before applying..

Costs

  • No tuition fees at this public university for EU students. You pay only the HWR Berlin semester contribution each semester (the amount is set each semester; across Germany it is roughly EUR 150-400 per semester). Check the current amount on the HWR semester fee page. uni-assist charges its own handling fee for assessing your application.
Although the course is taught in English, HWR requires German at A2 level for admission, so start learning German before you apply. There is no tuition fee, only a semester contribution, but Berlin rents are high.
