About the course

A three-year (180 ECTS), fully English-taught business degree covering the core areas of management, with a compulsory specialisation chosen from Artificial Intelligence, Business Analytics, Entrepreneurship, International Management, Logistics, or Organisational Development and Change. It is taught on campus in Cologne.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Germany’s recognition rules (KMK/ZAB) say the Leaving Certificate gives direct entry only with six subjects: at least two at Higher Level H5 or better, the other four at O6/H6 or better, including two languages and Maths at O5/H6 or better. For business courses the German rules also ask for Higher Level Maths at H5. IU does not publish Ireland-specific rules, so confirm with IU admissions how your Leaving Cert will be assessed. LCA is not accepted.
  • Admission also requires a 15-minute online interview about your academic background, reasons for studying and career goals, and you must choose a specialisation.
  • IU asks you to show sufficient English skills but does not publish the accepted certificates, scores or exemptions on the programme page; ask admissions whether Leaving Cert English is accepted.

How to apply

  1. Choose a specialisationPick one of the six specialisations (e.g. International Management, AI, Entrepreneurship) on the IU programme page; a specialisation is required.
  2. Apply onlineSubmit IU’s online application with your Leaving Cert results (or predicted grades) and passport. Aim for spring 2027 for an October 2027 start.
  3. Online interviewTake the 15-minute online interview after IU has reviewed your documents.
  4. Sign contract and paySign the study contract and pay the €1,500 campus registration fee, then arrange accommodation in Cologne before the October or April start.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Two intakes a year, October and April. IU publishes no fixed closing date for 2027. For the current intake IU advertises up to 20% tuition savings for applying by 5 October. Apply several months ahead of your chosen start (e.g. spring 2027 for October 2027) to allow time for the interview and paperwork..

Costs

  • Private university: €3,485 per semester if paid each semester (€20,910 for 6 semesters), or €6,831 a year if paid yearly (€20,492 total), or €18,819 paid in full upfront. IU says these prices include an 18% programme discount, and discount offers are time-limited, so check the price on the day you sign. On top: a one-off campus registration fee of €1,500 and a semester ticket of €226.80 per semester. IU’s pages do not mention an application fee.
IU is a private university: expect about €20,000 in tuition over three years plus a €1,500 registration fee, compared with no tuition at public German universities. Check the exact price and discount terms before signing the study contract.
