About the course

A three-year economics major (180 ECTS) covering topics such as growth, monetary policy, globalisation, and environmental and behavioural economics, with training in mathematical models, statistics and programming. You also take the interdisciplinary Leuphana Semester and a minor of your choice alongside the major.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • German rules (KMK/ZAB) say the Leaving Certificate gives direct university entry only with the right subject mix: six subjects, at least two at Higher Level with H5 or better, the other four at O6/H6 or better, including two languages and Maths at O5/H6 or better. For business and economics you also need Higher Level Maths at H5 or better. Leuphana publishes nothing specific to the Leaving Cert, so confirm with admissions.
  • Places are limited and awarded through Leuphana College’s own selection procedure. The programme page mentions selection days with an admission test and interviews, but does not give the details or how each part is weighted.
  • The course is taught in English and no German is needed. The programme page says you need English skills but does not say which certificates or levels are accepted, or whether Leaving Cert English counts. Check Leuphana’s language-proficiency page or ask admissions.
