About the course

A six-semester (180 ECTS), English-taught B.Sc. in Digital Technologies & Coding, specialising in artificial intelligence, in Berlin. It covers machine learning, data analysis and data science, neural networks, software projects and AI systems. The fifth semester is an internship semester (25 ECTS), and the degree finishes with a bachelor’s thesis. There is no numerus clausus.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Germany’s national rules (KMK/anabin) say the Leaving Certificate gives direct university entry if you have six subjects, including two languages and Maths at O5/H6 or better, with at least two at Higher Level at H5 or better and the rest at O6/H6 or better. For maths, science and engineering subjects, the rules also ask for Higher Level Maths at H5 plus a Higher Level science at H5. Macromedia publishes nothing specific about the Irish Leaving Cert, and certificates from outside Bavaria must be confirmed as equivalent where necessary, so confirm with admissions how they assess yours.
  • No entrance exam or portfolio is listed. You apply online with your school leaving certificate, a CV in table form, a motivation letter and a copy of your passport or ID.
  • English: Macromedia asks for TOEFL iBT 72 or IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. On its programme fee pages, this applies to applicants who were not schooled in English, so Irish students taught through English should normally be exempt. Confirm this before you book a test.

How to apply

  1. Check your Leaving Cert subjectsMake sure your six subjects meet the German rules. For a computing B.Sc., aim for Higher Level Maths at H5 and a Higher Level science at H5.
  2. Prepare your documentsWrite a CV and a motivation letter, and ask admissions to confirm that you are exempt from an English test and that your Leaving Cert is accepted.
  3. Apply onlineComplete the online application and upload your ID, CV, motivation letter and certificates well before the deadline, which is about 30 September 2027 for the October 2027 intake.
  4. Sign the study contractIf you get an offer, sign the study contract, pay the €699 registration fee and your first semester fee, and arrange housing in Berlin.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Macromedia admits on a rolling basis with a summer intake (starting 1 April) and a winter intake (starting 1 October). For the October 2026 intake, the programme page says to apply by 30 September 2026. The general admissions page gives 1 October and says deadlines can be extended in exceptional cases. The October 2027 deadline is not yet published, so expect about 30 September 2027 and apply early, especially if you need time to find housing..

Costs

  • Private university: €6,000 per semester (€12,000 a year) plus a one-off €699 registration fee, as listed on the official programme page for the 2026 intakes. Everyone pays the same fee, whether from the EU or not. Payment plans and scholarships are available. You also pay your own rent and living costs in Berlin. 2027 fees are not yet published.
This is a private, fee-paying university, unlike Germany’s tuition-free public universities. Check that your Leaving Cert meets the German Maths and science rules for technical subjects before you sign a study contract. Macromedia also runs a separate Artificial Intelligence (Management) bachelor, so make sure you apply for the right programme.
