About the course

A six-semester (180 ECTS) Bachelor of Arts in Design, taught in English at the Berlin and Munich campuses. It covers typography, form, colour, material, light, movement and sound, along with graphic and web design, interaction design, GUI development and user experience design.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Germany: the Leaving Cert gives direct university entry only with the subject combination German rules require: six subjects, at least two at Higher Level H5 or better, the other four at O6/H6 or better, including two languages and Maths at O5/H6 or better. Macromedia asks for a recognised secondary school leaving certificate that gives university entrance, but does not publish Irish-specific rules, so confirm with admissions. It also says that for this course, artistic aptitude may allow admission in some cases, so contact the university if you are unsure.
  • You need a digital portfolio of 10 to 25 design or concept pieces (for example animations, drawings, paintings, sketchbooks, photos, computer graphics, websites or short films), none older than two years. Put them in one PDF (max. 20 MB) named with your first name, surname and the date. Video files should be MP4 (max. 500 MB).
  • English: applicants without English-language schooling need TOEFL iBT 72 or IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent). Irish students schooled through English may be exempt, but confirm with admissions before applying.

  3. Advisory contact and decisionMacromedia’s student advisory service contacts you after reviewing your application and portfolio.
  4. Sign the study contractIf you are accepted, sign and return the study contract and pay the €699 registration fee to secure your place.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Two intakes a year: summer semester starting 1 April and winter semester starting 1 October. The official deadlines are 1 April (summer) and 1 October (winter), and for the October 2026 start the programme page asked applicants to apply by 30 September 2026. Costs

  • Private university. Tuition starts at €6,000 per semester (about €12,000 a year), plus a one-off registration fee of €699. Macromedia publishes separate price lists for each intake (summer and winter term), so check the list for your campus and start date. 2027 prices are not yet confirmed.
This is a private, state-recognised university that charges tuition (from €6,000 per semester), unlike tuition-free public universities in Germany. The course is taught in English in Berlin and Munich. Ask admissions whether your English-medium schooling exempts you from TOEFL or IELTS.
