About the course

An English-taught engineering degree combining mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science, with modules in programming, microcontrollers, sensor networks, automotive systems, robotics, AI and smart manufacturing, and a strong focus on lab work and projects. It runs over seven semesters (210 ECTS) and includes the Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certificate Programme (levels 1-2).

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • SRH asks for a general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur) or university of applied sciences entrance qualification, or a foreign school-leaving certificate that gives university access. It publishes nothing specific on the Irish Leaving Certificate, so the German rules apply: the Leaving Cert gives direct entry only with six subjects, at least two at Higher Level with H5 or better, the rest at O6/H6 or better, including two languages and Maths (O5/H6 or better). For engineering you also need Higher Level Maths at H5 and a Higher Level science at H5. LCA and LCVP are not accepted. Confirm with SRH admissions how they assess your results.
  • If your Leaving Cert does not meet the entry rules, SRH mentions a Foundation Year at SRH International College and a conditional enrolment route. After your documents are checked, the admissions process includes a personal admission interview before you sign the study contract.
  • Proof of English is required, for example IELTS Academic 6.5, TOEFL iBT 87, Cambridge B2 First grade A or B, CAE/CPE grade A-C, Duolingo 110, PTE Academic 59 or TOEIC 785 (certificates no older than two years). SRH does not say whether Leaving Cert English is accepted instead; if you have no certificate you can take SRH’s own English Proficiency Certificate. Ask admissions before booking a paid test.

How to apply

  1. Check your subjectsMake sure your Leaving Cert plan meets the German engineering rule: Higher Level Maths and a Higher Level science at H5 or better, plus the six-subject rule.
  2. Apply onlineCreate an account on the SRH application portal and upload your CV, passport copy, school results and English evidence; aim for early 2027 for a 1 October 2027 start.
  3. Interview and offerAfter the document check you attend a personal admission interview; successful applicants sign a study contract and receive an admission letter.
  4. Pay and preparePay the EUR 750 registration fee and then monthly tuition from the start of studies; arrange accommodation in Heidelberg or Berlin.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: The programme and admissions pages do not publish a fixed application deadline; you apply through the SRH online portal. Intakes start on 1 October and 1 April, so the main 2027 start is 1 October 2027. Apply well ahead (for example by spring 2027) and confirm any cut-off date with SRH admissions..

Costs

  • SRH is a private university. EU/EEA students pay EUR 790 a month in Heidelberg (about EUR 9,480 a year) or EUR 840 a month in Berlin (about EUR 10,080 a year), plus a one-off registration fee of EUR 750. SRH says the fee stays the same for your whole period of study. The programme page does not say which academic year these rates apply to, so confirm the 2027/28 rate before signing the study contract.
This is a private university: tuition is about EUR 9,500-10,100 a year plus a EUR 750 registration fee, unlike Germany’s tuition-free public universities. Budget for rent on top, especially in Berlin.
