About the course

A seven-semester, English-taught B.Eng. (210 ECTS) that starts with engineering fundamentals, applied maths, design and materials, then focuses on drive technology and automation, machine design, product development and robotics. It includes a 24-credit industrial internship in semester 4 and a thesis, and is taught in five-week blocks under SRH’s CORE method.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • German rules say the Leaving Certificate gives direct university entry only with the right subjects and levels. You need six subjects, including two languages and Maths. At least two subjects must be at Higher Level at H5 or better, and the other four at O6/H6 or better. For engineering you also need Higher Level Maths at H5 and a Higher Level science at H5. LCA and LCVP are not accepted. SRH publishes no Irish-specific rules, so confirm with admissions.
  • SRH says there is no numerus clausus. You apply online and are then normally invited to an admissions interview; SRH says some programmes use a video recording or direct acceptance instead.
  • SRH asks for proof of English through tests such as TOEFL or IELTS ‘or comparable certificates’, and offers its own SRH English Proficiency Certificate test. Ask admissions whether Leaving Cert English is accepted.

How to apply

  1. Check your subjectsTake Higher Level Maths and a Higher Level science, aiming for H5 or better in both, plus two languages.
  2. Apply onlineApply through the SRH application portal with your results, proof of English, CV and ID. Applications for October 2027 are already open.
  3. Admissions interviewAttend the interview, or do a video recording if SRH asks for one.

Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: The programme page lists an October 2027 start, and SRH says you can apply at any time through its online portal. The course starts once a year, on 1 October. Apply early in 2027 to leave time for the interview and enrolment..

Costs

  • Private university: EU/EEA students pay EUR 790 a month (about EUR 9,480 a year), and SRH says this stays the same for the whole degree. There is also a one-off enrolment fee of EUR 750. SRH says no separate exam fees are charged, apart from any placement, aptitude or equivalency tests.
SRH is private: EUR 790 a month for 3.5 years plus a EUR 750 enrolment fee, while public German universities are tuition-free for EU students. Budget for rent in Heidelberg as well.
