About the course

A 7-semester (210 ECTS) bachelor’s in English at SRH’s Heidelberg campus, focused on game design. It covers game design fundamentals, building virtual worlds, game engines, 3D modelling, narrative and interaction design, project-based learning and an internship semester. SRH teaches in five-week blocks.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • SRH asks for a general higher education entrance qualification or equivalent. Under German rules (KMK/ZAB), the Leaving Certificate counts only if you have six subjects. Two must be at Higher Level at H5 or better and the other four at O6/H6 or better. The six must include two languages and Maths at O5/H6 or better. For computing and science courses, Germany usually also expects Higher Level Maths at H5 and a Higher Level science at H5. SRH publishes nothing specific to Ireland, so confirm with SRH admissions how your Leaving Cert will be assessed. LCA and LCVP are not accepted.
  • Selection: you must send a personal motivation letter and attend an interview. A portfolio or work samples are optional but count in your favour.
  • Language: the course is listed as taught in English. However, the programme page also contains a line asking international applicants for German (DSH or TestDaF). Ask admissions in writing which language proof they need from you, and whether Leaving Cert English is accepted.

Paid monthly, it comes to about €31,500. You also get a 3% discount if you pay a year in advance. Confirm 2027 fees with SRH. Rent and living costs in Heidelberg are extra.
