About the course

A 7-semester degree with all modules taught in English, covering computer science and artificial intelligence. Semester 5 is a mandatory internship (25 ECTS).

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Germany’s recognition rules (KMK/anabin) say the Leaving Cert gives direct entry to maths/science-type degrees only with the right subjects: six subjects including two languages and Maths (O5/H6 or better); at least two at Higher Level H5 or better, the rest at O6/H6 or better; and Higher Level Maths at H5 or better plus a Higher Level science at H5 or better. LCA and LCVP are not accepted. THI publishes nothing specific on Irish applicants, so confirm with admissions.
  • Places are limited and allocated in order of your uni-assist converted grade, with EU applicants given priority. Selection also looks particularly at Maths and computer science (programming) grades, and a good SAT score increases your chances.
  • English: you need proof of English at B2 level or higher by the start of the course unless you hold a German-language entrance qualification. THI does not say whether Leaving Cert English counts, so confirm with THI before applying.

How to apply

  1. Check your Leaving Cert subjectsMake sure you have Higher Level Maths at H5 or better and a Higher Level science at H5 or better, plus the rest of the German subject rules. Strong Maths also helps your ranking.
  2. Get a VPD from uni-assistSend your documents to uni-assist early; processing takes 4 to 6 weeks and the VPD is needed for your THI application.
  3. Apply on PRIMUSSApply on THI’s portal by 15 July 2027 (period for 2027/28 given as 15 April to 15 July 2027) and upload your VPD and English proof.
  4. Offer and enrolmentWatch the portal for your offer, then enrol and pay the semester contribution before the winter semester starts.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: The programme page gives the winter semester 2027/28 application period as 15 April to 15 July 2027 (it also says the online portal is open 2 May to 15 July). With a foreign school qualification you first need a VPD from uni-assist, which takes 4 to 6 weeks, so apply to uni-assist well before July. Winter start only..

Costs

  • No tuition for Irish/EU students: you pay only the semester fee to the Erlangen-Nuremberg Student Services Association. THI’s April 2026 cost sheet lists it at €82 per semester (about €164 a year); the programme details page still shows €67. The €800 per semester tuition applies only to non-EU/EEA students. uni-assist charges €75 for the VPD check (€30 for each further university).
Places are limited and ranked on grades, with Maths and programming grades weighted, so Higher Level Maths matters for both eligibility and ranking. Leaving Cert results arrive in August, after the 15 July deadline, so contact THI and uni-assist early.
