About the course

A seven-semester business engineering degree that mixes engineering and science modules with management and international communication. It includes a 20-week industry internship in semester 5 and a bachelor’s thesis in semester 7. All teaching from semester 3 onwards is in English. In semesters 1 and 2 some lectures are also offered in German, and the course includes German language modules.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Germany (KMK/ZAB, published on anabin) accepts the Leaving Cert for direct university entry only with the right subjects and levels. You need six subjects, including two languages and Maths. At least two must be Higher Level at H5 or better, and the rest must be H6/O6 or better. LCA and LCVP are not accepted. uni-assist checks your certificate and converts it to a German grade. The course has restricted places (numerus clausus), so that grade is used to rank you. THI publishes no rules specific to Ireland, so confirm with admissions.
  • For engineering, German rules also require Higher Level Maths at H5 or better and a Higher Level science at H5 or better. THI also requires pre-study practical training (Vorpraxis), so check with the faculty what counts.
  • English: the programme site says no TOEFL or IELTS is needed. However, THI’s general page for applicants from abroad says B2 English proof is required for all-English bachelor’s degrees if you do not have a German school-leaving qualification. Ask admissions whether Leaving Cert English is accepted. No German is needed to be admitted, but you must show basic German during the course: A1 by the end of semester 1 according to the programme site, and A2 by a set semester according to THI’s general page.

How to apply

  1. Check your subjectsMake sure your Leaving Cert includes two languages and Maths, with Higher Level Maths and a Higher Level science at H5 or better. Also check the Vorpraxis (practical training) requirement.
  2. Get a uni-assist VPD in spring 2027Send your Leaving Cert to uni-assist for a VPD (preliminary review of your documents). It takes 4 to 6 weeks, and the programme site asks for documents by about 6 July.
  3. Apply via Hochschulstart and THIBetween 2 May and 15 July 2027, apply through Hochschulstart (DoSV) and track it on THI’s PRIMUSS portal. Finish uploading documents by about 27 July.
  4. Admission and enrolmentOffers come out by mid-August. Accept, pay the student union fee and enrol for the October start. Start looking for housing in Ingolstadt early.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Winter semester (October) start only. THI’s application period runs from 2 May to 15 July. You apply through Hochschulstart (DoSV) and track your application on THI’s PRIMUSS portal. First you need a uni-assist VPD, which takes 4 to 6 weeks. The programme site asks international applicants to get their documents to uni-assist by 6 July and to finish uploading by 27 July. Admission letters come out by mid-August. These dates are from the current cycle, so confirm the 2027 dates..

Costs

  • No tuition for EU/EEA citizens (THI’s EUR 800 per semester tuition applies only to non-EU/EEA students from summer semester 2026). You pay only a student union fee each semester. The programme site gives this as EUR 42 per semester (about EUR 84 a year), but check THI’s current fee, as it may have gone up. THI says uni-assist charges EUR 75 to review your documents, plus EUR 30 for each extra university application.
There are only 50 places, and you are ranked on your converted Leaving Cert grade, so get your uni-assist VPD started early. Teaching is in English, but you must reach basic German (A1/A2) during the course.
