About the course

A six-semester (180 ECTS) business degree covering business administration, economics and law, with electives such as Modern Marketing, Digital Business, Start-Up Management, Big Data Management and Digital Transformation. It is practice-oriented and includes two internships and an optional semester abroad.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • UE publishes no Ireland-specific rule. Under German recognition rules (KMK/ZAB, anabin) the Leaving Certificate gives university entry only with six subjects: at least two at Higher Level H5 or better, the rest at O6/H6 or better, including two languages and Maths at O5/H6 or better. For business subjects, Higher Level Maths at H5 or better is also required. Confirm with UE admissions how they apply this to your results.
  • Apply online with your CV, a motivation letter (minimum 500 words), school transcript and ID, followed by UE’s admission test (a maths part and a short essay). UE says the test applies mainly to non-EU applicants, depending on your school curriculum, so ask whether an Irish applicant must sit it. There is no Numerus Clausus (grade cut-off).
  • English: minimum B2 (e.g. IELTS Academic 5.5, TOEFL iBT 60, Cambridge First 160, Duolingo 100). UE does not publish an exemption for native speakers or for Leaving Cert English, so ask admissions whether your Leaving Cert English is accepted.

How to apply

  1. Check your subjectsMake sure your Leaving Cert meets the German rules, including Higher Level Maths at H5 or better for business.
  2. Apply onlineApply through UE’s online application, choose the English-taught version and your campus, and upload your CV, transcript, ID and a 500-word motivation letter.
  3. Admission testComplete the online admission test (maths and short essay) if UE asks you to; confirm whether it applies to EU applicants.
  4. Sign contract by 1 Sep 2027Sign the study contract, pay the registration and reservation fees and arrange housing before the September start.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: UE publishes a standing rule rather than dated 2027 deadlines: apply by 1 September for the winter semester (September start) and by 28 February for the summer semester (March start). Late applications go on a waiting list. Berlin also has January and July intakes; Hamburg and Iserlohn take students in March and September. Apply early, by spring, to leave time for the admission procedure and to find housing..

Costs

  • UE is a private, state-recognised university of applied sciences. Tuition at the German campuses is listed as ‘from €6,662 per year’, marked as a current saving offer with terms and conditions, so ask admissions for your exact written fee. UE says its fees include matriculation, examination and thesis fees. The fees page also lists a one-off registration fee of €490 and a €1,500 reservation fee for EU applicants (deducted from total programme costs; applicants resident in Germany, Austria or Switzerland are exempt). The local semester transport ticket, rent and living costs are extra.
This is a private university charging tuition, unlike German public universities, which are free for EU students. The programme is offered in both German and English, so make sure you apply for the English-taught version at your chosen campus.
