About the course

A 180 ECTS English-taught bachelor combining business with data science, including artificial intelligence, machine learning and law, applied to areas such as fintech, e-commerce and Industry 4.0. It is offered at UE’s Innovation Hub near Berlin and in Hamburg.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • UE requires a general higher education entrance qualification (or entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences) and publishes no Ireland-specific rule. Under German (KMK/anabin) rules, the Leaving Cert gives entry only with six general subjects: at least two at Higher Level with H5 or better, the other four at O6/H6 or better, including two languages and Maths at O5/H6 or better. Business and data courses normally also need Higher Level Maths at H5 (a science classification would add a Higher Level science at H5). LCA and LCVP are not accepted. Confirm with UE admissions how they assess your Leaving Cert.
  • There is no Numerus Clausus (no grade cap). The course page says admission is ‘as a rule’ through an entrance test; UE does not publish its format. You also send a CV, a motivation letter of at least 500 words, school results and a passport copy.
  • English: the course asks for good English at least at B2 level. UE lists IELTS Academic 5.5, TOEFL iBT 60, PTE Academic 56, Cambridge First 160, Cambridge Advanced 162 or Duolingo 100 among accepted proofs; it does not say whether Leaving Cert English is accepted instead, so ask admissions.

How to apply

  1. Check your subjectsMake sure your Leaving Cert subjects and levels meet the German rules, ideally with Higher Level Maths at H5 or better.
  2. Choose a campusPick the Innovation Hub near Berlin or Hamburg; start dates differ by campus (Hamburg: March and September only).
  3. Apply onlineApply on UE’s online portal with CV, motivation letter, passport copy, school results and English proof; the published winter deadline is 1 September (confirm for 2027). Complete the entrance test if asked.
  4. Accept and payOn acceptance, pay the registration and EU reservation fees to hold your place, get your exact tuition confirmed in writing, and arrange accommodation.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Winter semester (September start): apply by 1 September. Summer semester (March start): apply by 28 February. The course page lists January, March, July and September intakes for the Berlin (Innovation Hub) campus and March and September for Hamburg and Iserlohn. Applications are accepted up to one year in advance. These deadlines are from UE’s current bachelor application page and are not dated for 2027; confirm before applying..

Costs

  • UE is a private, state-recognised university of applied sciences. The course page lists tuition ‘from EUR 6,662 per year’ for German campuses as a current saving offer with terms and conditions, so your actual fee may be higher; ask UE for your exact price in writing. The fees page also lists a one-time EUR 490 registration fee, a EUR 1,500 reservation fee for EU applicants (residents of Germany, Austria and Switzerland are exempt), a mandatory semester ticket of about EUR 185-205 per semester and a EUR 89 yearly technology fee. Budget separately for rent and living costs.
UE is a private university, so unlike German public universities you pay tuition (from EUR 6,662 a year under a promotional offer) plus registration, reservation and other fees. Take Higher Level Maths if you can, as German rules usually require it for business and data courses.
