About the course

A six-semester (180 ECTS) psychology degree covering the core areas of psychology. It is taught in English on the Berlin campus; the Hamburg and Iserlohn versions (and a Berlin German version) are taught in German.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • UE asks for a general higher education entrance qualification (or one for universities of applied sciences). Under German recognition rules the Leaving Certificate gives direct entry only with six subjects: at least two at Higher Level with H5 or better, the rest at O6/H6 or better, including two languages and Maths at O5/H6 or better. LCA and LCVP are not accepted. UE publishes nothing Ireland-specific, and some subject areas need Higher Level Maths at H5, so confirm with UE admissions whether your subject mix is enough for psychology.
  • Documents: CV, passport or ID copy, school-leaving results and transcript, and a motivation letter of at least 500 words. UE says the admission procedure is ‘as a rule’ an entrance test after you apply.
  • English: UE asks for an English certificate and lists minimum scores such as IELTS Academic 5.5, TOEFL iBT 60, PTE Academic 56, Cambridge CAE 162 or FCE 160, and Duolingo 100. No exemption for Leaving Cert English is published, so ask admissions whether your Leaving Cert English is accepted before paying for a test.

How to apply

  1. Check your subjectsMake sure your Leaving Cert meets the German six-subject rule (two Higher Level subjects at H5 or better, two languages, Maths at O5/H6 or better) and ask UE to confirm eligibility for psychology.
  2. Apply onlineApply through UE’s online application, choose the English-taught Berlin campus, and upload your CV, ID, results or latest school report, and a motivation letter of at least 500 words.
  3. Admission test and contractComplete the admission test UE sets, then sign the study contract; UE issues the letter of admission once it receives the signed contract. EU citizens pay a €1,500 reservation fee, deducted from the total cost.
  4. Meet the deadline and plan BerlinApply by 1 September 2027 for a September 2027 start, then budget for Berlin rent, the €490 registration fee, the €89 technology fee and the €205.20 semester ticket.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: UE’s published deadline for EU applicants is 1 September for the winter semester (September start) and 28 February for the summer semester (March start). After these deadlines UE runs a waiting list for any remaining places. Applying well before the deadline leaves time for the admission test and to find accommodation in Berlin..

Costs

  • UE is a private, state-recognised university of applied sciences, so you pay tuition. UE lists bachelor tuition ‘from €6,662 per year’ as a current saving offer (terms and conditions apply); the standard rate is not published, so ask admissions for the exact figure. UE also lists a €490 registration fee, a €1,500 reservation fee for EU citizens (deducted from the total cost), a €89 yearly technology fee and a mandatory Berlin semester ticket of €205.20 on top of the study fee. UE says examination and bachelor thesis fees are included if you finish within the standard study period.
This is a private university with tuition fees, unlike Germany’s free public universities. If you want a career as a psychologist in Ireland, check how the degree will be recognised by the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) before committing.
