About the course

A three-year, 180-ECTS Bachelor of Arts at the University of Würzburg, taught in English. It is a single-subject degree and cannot be combined with other subjects. It is run by the Junior Professorship for Islamic Studies/Arabic in the Faculty of Human Sciences. The course covers history, philosophy, politics and religions, with a focus on the Jewish, Christian and Islamic intellectual traditions and on philosophical approaches to ethics. It looks at what these traditions mean today for diversity, ethics and interfaith dialogue. Entry is in October only.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Germany (KMK/ZAB, published on anabin) accepts the Leaving Certificate for direct university entry in humanities with the standard subject rule: six general subjects, at least two at Higher Level with H5 or better, the other four at O6/H6 or better, including two languages and Maths at O5/H6 or better. Humanities need nothing extra. LCA and LCVP are not accepted. Würzburg publishes nothing Irish-specific, so confirm with its admissions office.
  • There is no entrance test and no cap on places (the course is admission-free).
  • You need English at B1 level. Ask Würzburg whether Leaving Cert English counts as proof. The university also requires German at A2 level by the end of the 2nd semester, so plan to learn some German during your first year.
