About the course

An engineering degree focused on making new products and services from an international perspective, with mathematics and statistics as supporting subjects. Much of the teaching is project-based: you work with a mentor company from the 3rd to the 7th semester and do an internship with it in the 6th semester.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Denmark accepts the Leaving Certificate as an EU school-leaving qualification, and your grades are converted to the Danish scale under national rules. You must also meet the programme’s Danish subject levels. Aarhus does not publish a Leaving Cert conversion on the programme page, and Higher Level is usually needed to count as Danish A or B level, so confirm with Aarhus admissions before applying.
  • Required subjects at Danish level: English B, Mathematics B, and Physics B or Geoscience A. Quota 1 has a minimum GPA of 7.0. Quota 2 looks at Mathematics B with a minimum mark of 10 or Mathematics A, a motivation letter of up to 4,800 characters, and relevant education, work experience or time abroad (up to 12 months counted in total). No entrance exam.
  • English: Aarhus accepts a completed school-leaving exam from Ireland with a passed English subject as meeting the English B requirement, so IELTS or TOEFL is not needed.

How to apply

  1. Check maths and physics (autumn 2026)Ask Aarhus admissions whether your Leaving Cert Maths and Physics meet Mathematics B and Physics B (Higher Level is likely needed), and which Leaving Cert grade counts as a Danish 10.
  2. Write your motivation letter (early 2027)Prepare a letter of up to 4,800 characters showing your interest in the programme and the profession, and gather evidence of relevant work, education or time abroad.
  3. Apply on optagelse.dk (by 15 Mar 2027, 12:00 noon)Apply for admission area 22965 among your up to 8 priorities, upload the motivation letter and supporting documents, and ask about conditional admission as your results will arrive after 5 July.
  4. Upload results and move (Aug 2027)Upload your Leaving Cert results when released, accept your offer and arrange housing in Herning, a smaller town than Aarhus.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Apply through optagelse.dk by 15 March 2027 at 12:00 noon Danish time. For foreign-exam applicants this deadline covers both Quota 1 (minimum GPA 7.0) and Quota 2. Aarhus says admission requirements must be met and documented by 5 July in the year of application unless you apply for conditional admission. Because Leaving Cert results come out in late August, ask Aarhus about conditional admission..

Costs

  • No tuition fees for EU/EEA citizens, including Irish citizens, at Danish public universities. You pay your own living and housing costs. Confirm on Aarhus University’s tuition fee page.
This programme is in Herning, not Aarhus city, and needs Physics as well as Maths at Danish B level. Documents are normally due by 5 July, before Leaving Cert results, so ask Aarhus about conditional admission when you apply.
