Entry requirements for Irish students

  • CBS publishes no specific assessment of the Irish Leaving Certificate. It says that where your grades cannot be converted to the Danish scale you can only be assessed in Quota 2. You must show that your subjects meet the Danish level requirements, so take the relevant subjects at Higher Level and confirm how CBS maps them with CBS admissions. CAO points do not apply.
  • Specific requirements: English level B (minimum 6.0 on the Danish scale), Mathematics level B, and one of History, International Economics, Social Studies, History of Ideas or Contemporary History at level B. Quota 2 selection looks at your motivational essay, relevant extra-curricular activities and your general grade level in the required subjects.
  • English: CBS also requires English level A for its English-taught programmes. It accepts completion of your entire upper secondary education in Ireland (among other listed countries) if you were taught entirely in English for at least three years, so a Leaving Cert taken through English should meet this without IELTS or TOEFL. Students from Irish-medium schools should check with CBS.

How to apply

  1. Check your subjectsIn 5th and 6th Year, take English, Maths and History or a similar subject, ideally at Higher Level, to cover the level B requirements.
  2. Apply on optagelse.dkCreate an application and list the programme among your up to 8 priorities before 15 March 2027 at 12:00 noon Danish time (Quota 2).
  3. Upload Quota 2 documentsSubmit your motivational essay, evidence of activities, your school results and the documentation CBS asks for showing how your subjects meet the entry requirements.
  4. Send final resultsUpload your final Leaving Cert results as CBS asks. CBS’s documentation deadline is 5 July at 12:00, before Irish results are issued, so agree the arrangement with CBS admissions in advance.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Apply on optagelse.dk under Quota 2 by 15 March 2027 at 12:00 noon Danish time (national Quota 2 deadline). CBS states that you must document all specific entry requirements, and have language results available to CBS, by 5 July at 12:00 noon. Leaving Cert results are not issued until late August, so contact CBS admissions early about how they will handle this..

Costs

  • CBS states that EU/EEA and Swiss citizens pay no tuition fees, so Irish citizens pay nothing. Application and tuition fees apply only to non-EU/EEA citizens. You pay your own living costs in Copenhagen, which are high.
Irish applicants are assessed in Quota 2 on a motivational essay, activities and grades, not on points, and competition is strong: 1,844 people applied through Quota 2 in 2026. CBS’s 5 July documentation deadline falls before Leaving Cert results are issued, so contact CBS admissions early.

Checked against the official CBS website: September 2026 (2027 entry). Places, quota split and applicant numbers are from the 2026 intake, and CBS’s admission page still describes its assessments as valid for an earlier round, so confirm 2027 details with CBS. Always confirm details with the university before applying.
