About the course

An English-taught engineering bachelor that combines a shared base in maths, physics and chemistry with a specialisation in Living Systems, Advanced Materials, Cyber Systems or Future Energy. It is taught on DTU’s Lyngby campus and starts in August.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Denmark accepts the Leaving Certificate as an EU school-leaving qualification, and DTU asks for an upper secondary exam equivalent to the Danish one. DTU sets its subject requirements using Danish levels (A, B, C). We could not confirm how DTU maps Leaving Cert subjects and grades to these levels. Higher Level is normally needed for A or B, so do not assume Ordinary Level will count. Check with DTU admissions before you apply.
  • DTU requires Mathematics at A level, Physics at B level and Chemistry at B level. In Leaving Cert terms, expect to need Higher Level Maths and to take both Physics and Chemistry. Confirm the levels and minimum grades with DTU.
  • English is required at B level. Ask DTU whether Leaving Cert English at a stated grade is accepted in place of IELTS or TOEFL.

How to apply

  1. Check subject requirements nowBefore you settle your Leaving Cert subjects and levels, confirm with DTU how Maths (A level), Physics (B), Chemistry (B) and English (B) translate into Irish subjects, levels and grades.
  2. Register on optagelse.dkCreate an account on optagelse.dk and choose DTU General Engineering under Quota 2. You can list up to 8 choices in order of priority.
  3. Submit by 15 March 2027, 12:00 noonUpload your predicted or expected Leaving Cert results and any other documents DTU asks for before the deadline.
  4. Offers and final resultsOffers are released nationally on 28 July. Irish results come out in late August, so upload them as soon as DTU asks. Start looking for housing as soon as you accept.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: DTU says international-exam applicants apply under Quota 2 by 15 March. The national deadline time is 12:00 noon Danish time on optagelse.dk. Offers are released nationally on 28 July. Irish results come out in late August, so apply by 15 March with your predicted or expected results and upload the final results when DTU asks. DTU’s page does not state the year, so confirm the 2027 date on optagelse.dk..

Costs

  • No tuition for EU/EEA citizens, including Irish citizens, at Danish public universities such as DTU. We found no application fee for applying through optagelse.dk. You pay your own living and housing costs, and the Copenhagen area is expensive.
Tuition is free for Irish citizens, but you must apply through optagelse.dk by 15 March using predicted results. You will need Maths at Danish A level plus Physics and Chemistry at B level, which in practice means Higher Level Maths and both sciences.
