About the course

A three-year (180 ECTS), full-time degree taught in English. It covers the technical foundations of data science: mathematics, statistics, programming, machine learning, algorithms and databases. No previous programming experience is needed.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Denmark accepts the Irish Leaving Certificate as a school-leaving qualification if it is equal to a Danish upper secondary leaving certificate. ITU then sets subject requirements using Danish levels. ITU does not publish how Leaving Cert subjects map to those levels on the programme page, so ask ITU admissions which subjects, levels and grades count. Expect to need Higher Level. CAO points do not apply.
  • Mathematics at Danish A level with an average mark of at least 6 on the Danish 7-point scale. For a Leaving Cert student this probably means Higher Level Maths at a good grade. Confirm the exact grade with ITU.
  • English at Danish B level with an average mark of at least 6 (no minimum mark if English is at A level). Ask ITU whether Leaving Cert English meets this, and at what level and grade, or whether you need a test such as IELTS.

How to apply

  1. Check requirements earlyIn autumn 2026, contact ITU admissions. Ask how your Leaving Cert Maths and English will be assessed against Maths A and English B, and what grades you need.
  2. Apply on optagelse.dkCreate your application on optagelse.dk and submit it under Quota 2 before 12:00 noon Danish time on 15 March 2027. You can list up to 8 programmes in order of priority.
  3. Upload documentsUpload your school results to date and any predicted or expected Leaving Cert results, plus any other documents ITU asks for. Meet the deadline ITU gives you.
  4. Send final resultsUpload your Leaving Cert results as soon as they come out in late August 2027. Start looking for housing in Copenhagen as early as possible.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Apply through optagelse.dk under Quota 2 by 15 March 2027 at 12:00 noon Danish time. This is the standard national Quota 2 deadline; check it against ITU’s deadlines page. Quota 1 (5 July) is based on grades only and does not suit Leaving Cert students, because results come out in late August. ITU has a summer intake only..

Costs

  • Irish and other EU/EEA citizens pay no tuition at Danish public universities such as ITU. The programme page does not mention fees, so confirm with ITU. You will need to pay for living costs and housing in Copenhagen yourself.
The main hurdle is Maths at Danish A level with an average of at least 6, so Higher Level Maths is almost certainly essential. The course is popular: in 2026 it had 595 applicants, 417 of them in Quota 2, for about 100 places.
