About the course

An English-taught humanities degree starting in August. The first year is an interdisciplinary basic section; in years two and three you specialise in two bachelor subjects, including Communication Studies, Cultural Encounters or Social Psychology of Everyday Life. Project work makes up about half of your studies.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Denmark accepts the Irish Leaving Certificate as an EU school-leaving qualification. Roskilde University has no Ireland-specific page. It compares each subject with Danish A/B/C levels by counting teaching hours in your last three years of upper secondary school, using a verification form your school must fill in, stamp and sign. How Higher and Ordinary Level map is not published, so confirm with Roskilde admissions.
  • Specific requirements: English at Danish B level; History, History of Ideas or Contemporary History at Danish B level; and one additional language, either a beginner’s language at Danish A level or an advanced language at Danish B level. In 2026, applicants who met the requirements and had a GPA of 8.5 or higher on the Danish scale were guaranteed a place.
  • English: Roskilde does not accept English tests (such as IELTS or TOEFL) to meet the English B requirement. It must be shown through your school qualification. Confirm that Leaving Cert English counts.

How to apply

  1. Check subject levels (autumn 2026)Ask Roskilde admissions whether your Leaving Cert English, History and a language such as French, German or Spanish will count at the required Danish levels.
  2. Apply on optagelse.dk (by 15 Mar 2027, 12:00 noon)Rank up to 8 choices. Include your predicted or expected results and the stamped hours-of-instruction verification form from your school.
  3. Submit final results (Aug 2027)Send your final Leaving Cert results to Roskilde as soon as they are released, following admissions’ instructions.
  4. Offer and move (summer 2027)Accept your offer on optagelse.dk, arrange housing early and register in Denmark when you arrive. The programme starts in August.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Apply through optagelse.dk by 15 March 2027 at 12:00 noon Danish time (national deadline per Study in Denmark), using expected Leaving Cert results. Because Leaving Cert results arrive in late August, after the 5 July diploma upload date, ask Roskilde admissions how to submit final results. Roskilde’s own deadline page could not be checked, so confirm the dates there..

Costs

  • No tuition fees for EU/EEA citizens, including Irish citizens. Roskilde University states that only non-EU/EEA citizens must pay an application fee and tuition fees.
You need a second language as well as English, and History at Danish B level. Before applying, check with Roskilde that your Leaving Cert language and History subjects meet these levels.
