About the course

An English-taught business economics degree covering marketing, accounting, finance and organisation, with a focus on international business. It is taught on SDU’s Sønderborg campus, near the German border.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • SDU accepts the Leaving Certificate (Established) for its bachelor’s programmes, and your application is assessed on your grades alone. SDU also recommends taking its admission test (uniTEST), because grade thresholds change from year to year. SDU’s Ireland page does not say how Higher Level and Ordinary Level subjects or H/O grades map to Danish levels (A, B, C) and grades, so ask SDU admissions how your subjects will be counted.
  • Places are split 65% Quota 1 and 35% Quota 2. Quota 1 needed a grade average of 8.3 in 2026 (the minimum is 6.0), but Leaving Cert students normally apply under Quota 2 by 15 March. The programme has specific subject requirements based on Danish levels. We could not load the admission requirements page, so check the required subjects and levels there before you choose your Leaving Cert subjects.
  • The course is taught in English. SDU’s general English B requirement is a pass in school English equal to at least 2.0 on the Danish scale, with the number of English lessons documented. SDU says IELTS, TOEFL and similar tests cannot be used to meet English B, though Cambridge C1 Advanced (score 180 or more) can. SDU does not say specifically how Leaving Cert English is treated, so confirm this with admissions.

How to apply

  1. Check the subject requirementsBefore you choose your Leaving Cert levels, read the specific requirements on the programme’s admission requirements page and SDU’s Ireland page. Ask SDU admissions how Higher Level and Ordinary Level subjects are counted.
  2. Apply on optagelse.dkApply by 15 March 2027 at 12:00 noon Danish time. You can list up to 8 programmes in order of priority. Upload your school transcripts for the last three years and SDU’s Statement of Hours form.
  3. Consider the uniTESTSDU recommends its admission test (uniTEST) for Leaving Cert applicants, because grade thresholds change each year. Check the test dates and how to register on SDU’s admission pages.
  4. Send your documents and plan housingSDU needs proof of English by 5 July at 12 noon (CET). Leaving Cert results come out in late August, so ask SDU how and when to send your final results. Start looking for accommodation in Sønderborg early.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Applicants with a foreign school-leaving exam, including the Leaving Certificate, must apply on optagelse.dk by 15 March at 12:00 noon Danish time. This is the date SDU published for the 2026 cycle, so confirm the 2027 date with SDU. SDU says all proof of English must reach it by 5 July at 12 noon (CET). SDU recommends taking its admission test (uniTEST). Test dates for 2027 were not confirmed..

Costs

  • No tuition for EU/EEA citizens, including Irish citizens, at this public university. SDU lists a fee of EUR 15,000 per year only for non-EU/EEA students. There is no application fee on optagelse.dk. Budget for rent and living costs in Denmark.
Apply by 15 March, because the July Quota 1 route does not suit the Leaving Cert timetable. SDU assesses the Leaving Cert on grades and recommends its uniTEST, and it does not accept IELTS or TOEFL for the English B requirement.
