About the course

A 2-year (120 ECTS) academy profession (AP) degree taught in English at VIA’s Herning campus. It combines design, technology and business, with specialisations in Fashion Design and in Branding and Marketing Management. It is a short-cycle degree, not a full bachelor’s, and graduates can go on to a top-up bachelor’s.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Denmark accepts the Irish Leaving Certificate as an upper secondary school-leaving qualification. This programme needs Mathematics at Danish C-level (125 hours), each subject passed with at least 2.0 on the Danish scale. VIA does not publish how the Leaving Cert maps to Danish levels, so confirm with VIA admissions.
  • English is required at Danish B-level (210 hours), or C-level (75 hours) together with a valid English test. VIA accepts school records or a test (IELTS Academic 6.5, Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency 180). Check with VIA that Leaving Cert English is accepted.
  • Every applicant must complete a creative admissions assignment for one chosen specialisation. It is submitted online through WISEflow and scored on a points system by admissions and academic staff.

How to apply

  1. Check the programme pagesRead VIA’s programme, deadline and admissions assignment pages, and check the ‘Important dates’ section (updated each January) for the 2027 assignment dates.
  2. Apply on optagelse.dkApply between 1 February and 15 March 2027 at 12:00 noon Danish time. You can list up to 8 choices.
  3. Complete the admissions assignmentChoose one specialisation (Fashion Design, or Branding and Marketing Management) and submit the creative assignment through WISEflow by VIA’s deadline.
  4. Upload final resultsUpload documents by VIA’s 5 July deadline. Ask VIA how to handle Leaving Cert results, which come out in late August. The course starts in late August, so arrange housing in Herning early.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Applications open on optagelse.dk on 1 February and close on 15 March at 12:00 noon Danish time. You must also complete an admissions assignment. VIA publishes its dates in its ‘Important dates’ section, which it updates every January. The final diploma can be uploaded until 5 July at 12:00 noon..

Costs

  • No tuition fee. VIA states that students from EU and EEA countries are exempt from tuition fees, so Irish citizens pay nothing. You will still need to budget for living costs in Herning.
This is a 2-year AP degree, not a full bachelor’s. The 15 March deadline and the creative admissions assignment are the key hurdles, and CAO points do not apply.
