About the course

An English-taught engineering degree that combines technical subjects with business, with a choice of specialisation in Sustainable Transition or Machine Technology from the second semester. Each semester ends with a project, there is an optional exchange in semester 5, and semester 8 is a 20-week internship.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • VIA accepts an upper secondary school leaving certificate such as the Leaving Certificate, but your subjects must meet Danish level requirements. VIA does not publish an Irish-specific conversion and refers applicants to the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science (ufsn.dk) recognition guide. In practice you should expect to need Higher Level for a subject to count at Danish A or B level; confirm how your subjects will be assessed with VIA admissions before applying.
  • Specific requirements: Mathematics equivalent to Danish B level (at least 250 teaching hours) and English equivalent to Danish A level (at least 335 teaching hours), taken in the last three years of upper secondary school, with a grade average of at least 2.0 on the Danish scale. Plan on Higher Level Maths and Higher Level English.
  • English must be documented at Danish A level following VIA’s English proficiency requirements page. We could not confirm whether Leaving Cert English at a particular grade is accepted instead of IELTS or TOEFL, so check with VIA.

How to apply

  1. Check subjects earlyMake sure you are taking Higher Level Maths and Higher Level English, and ask VIA admissions to confirm how your Leaving Cert subjects map to Danish Maths B and English A.
  2. Apply on optagelse.dkApplications open on 1 February 2027. Apply by 15 March 2027 at 12:00 noon Danish time with your school certificate or results so far, transcript, passport and English documentation.
  3. Send the signature pageFollow VIA’s instructions for the signature page; it must reach VIA by the 15 March deadline.
  4. Upload final resultsVIA’s deadline for final documentation is 5 July, before Leaving Cert results are out in August, so agree with VIA how and when to send your results. Offers are sent on 28 July and studies start in August.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Applications open on optagelse.dk on 1 February. Deadline 15 March at 12:00 noon Danish time (Quota 2, the route for international applicants); signature pages must also be received by then. VIA’s deadline for uploading final documentation and your diploma is 5 July at 12:00 noon. Offers are sent on 28 July, and studies start in August. These are VIA’s standard published dates; confirm them for 2027..

Costs

  • VIA states that students from EU and EEA countries are exempt from tuition fees in Denmark, so Irish citizens pay no tuition. Students from outside the EU/EEA pay programme-specific fees.
VIA asks for final diplomas by 5 July, but Leaving Cert results come out in late August, so contact VIA admissions before you apply to agree how your late results will be handled. The programme is listed as 4 years and 6 months, longer than many Danish engineering degrees.
